Copper binding capacity of root exudates of cultivated plants and associated weeds
2001
International audience; Cu binding to root exudates of two cultivated plants, wheat (Triticum aestivum) and rape (Brassica napus), and two weeds associated with wheat, dog daisy (Matricaria inodora) and cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), was studied in vitro under hydroponic and sterile conditions. Nutrient solutions were prepared with or without P. A MetPLATE microbiological test was used to assess the metal complexing capacity of root exudates. In the P-deficient solutions, no exudation was observed for any of the four plants; consequently, no Cu binding occurred. When P was present in the nutrient solutions, the plant exudates displayed differing abilities to complex Cu. No difference was de…
The Largest Subunit of RNA Polymerase II as a New Marker Gene to Study Assemblages of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in the Field
2014
Due to the potential of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF, Glomeromycota) to improve plant growth and soil quality, the influence of agricultural practice on their diversity continues to be an important research question. Up to now studies of community diversity in AMF have exclusively been based on nuclear ribosomal gene regions, which in AMF show high intra-organism polymorphism, seriously complicating interpretation of these data. We designed specific PCR primers for 454 sequencing of a region of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II gene, and established a new reference dataset comprising all major AMF lineages. This gene is known to be monomorphic within fungal isolates but shows an…
Nouvelles données sur le genre Bragasellus (Crustacea: Isopoda: Asellidae
1996
From now on, the genus Bragasellus Henry & Magniez, 1968 includes 2 oculated and 17 stygobiotic species. As a natural and monophyletic taxonomic unit, we consider it a good genus. Its original area corresponds to the north-west quarter of the Iberian Peninsula. Secondarily, this area has extended eastward, using mainly the alluvial channels of hydrographic systems (Ríos Douro + Ebro and tributaries), finally reaching the underground waters of several Mediterranean rivers. This active expansion is exclusively due to the migration of two stygobiotic sibling species: B. lagari Henry & Magniez, 1973 towards the high basin of the Río Tajo, then downstream to the basins of the Ríos Jucar and Turi…
All-day activity of Dolichovespula saxonica (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) colonies in Central Finland
2022
In social vespid wasps, colony activity varies at many temporal scales. We studied the peak season activity (number of individuals entering the nest per min) of colonies of the social vespine wasp Dolichovespula saxonica in its native range in boreal Finland. Six colonies were monitored non-stop for a full day, starting before sunrise and ending after sunset. Shorter monitoring was carried out before and/or after the full-day monitoring. All colonies were active before sunrise and after sunset, and the overall activity was positively linked with colony size. Activity showed irregular minute-to-minute cycles in all colonies. The broader within-day dynamics were idiosyncratic among the coloni…
Biochemical taxonomic differentiation between Mullus barbatus and mullus surmuletus (Pisces, mullidae)
1991
Abstract 1. 1. The electrophoretic data from seven enzymatic systems, codifying for 20 loci, and the patterns of general proteins from some tissues of Mullus barbatus and Mullus surmuletus were examined. 2. 2. The value of the genetic distance index as per Nei is 0.068, this criterium showing a high similarity between the two species. 3. 3. Species-specific patterns were found for the SOD enzyme and general proteins of the muscle.
Furto, incantesimi e perdono
2013
The essay explores the role of theft in Anglo-Saxon society, studying in particular the charms, the laws, and the homilies. A section of the essay is devoted to the legend of the two thieves who were crucified with Christ and its circulation in England.
First Descriptions of Larva and Pupa of
2019
In this paper, the mature larva and pupa of Bagous claudicans are described and illustrated for the first time. Measurements of younger larval instars are also given. The biology of the species is discussed in association with larval morphology and feeding habits. Overall larval and pupal morphological characters of the genus Bagous are presented. Confirmation of the larva identification as Bagous claudicans species was conducted by cytochrome oxidase I (COI) sequencing. DNA barcoding was useful for specimen identification of larval stages. The systematic position of the species within the Bagous collignensis-group, based on morphological and molecular results, is also discussed.
Technostress and Social Networking Services: Uncovering Strains and Their Underlying Stressors
2017
Numerous users of social networking sites and services (SNS) suffer from technostress and its various strains that hinder well-being. Despite a growing research interest on technostress, the extant studies have not explained what kinds of various strains can SNS use create and how can these strains be traced back to different stressors. To address this gap in research, we employed a qualitative approach by narrative interviews. As a contribution, our findings introduce four SNS strains (concentration problems, sleep problems, identity problems, and social relation problems) and explain how they link with different underlying SNS stressors. As practical implications, the findings of this stu…
Fungal biodiversity and in situ conservation in Italy
2011
A remarkable increase in knowledge of fungal biodiversity in Italy has occurred in the last five years. The authors report up-to-date numbers of fungi (Basidiomycota and Ascomycota) by regions together with distributional and ecological data on hypogeous fungi. Specific case studies such as alpine fungi, orchid mycorrhizas symbionts, invasive species, and the use of macrofungi as food by red squirrels are analyzed. In situ conservation strategies carried out on target species and/or taxonomic groups are also indicated.
