Effects of azadirachtin on the regulation of midgut peristalsis by the stomatogastric nervous system inLocusta migratoria
2000
A single injection of azadirachtin into nymphal and adult locusts results in a decrease of food intake but not in reduced food utilization. Feeding deterrency is correlated with a gradual inhibition of midgut peristalsis. Gut movement is under the control of the stomatogastric nervous system, especially the ingluvial ganglion, as demonstrated in anin vitro system. Serotonin is the most potent peristalsis-stimulating drugin vitro. Concurrent with the cessation of midgut peristalsis after azadirachtin injection, a depletion of the serotoninergic cell bodies in the frontal ganglion can be observed. Midgut preparations which show strongly inhibited contractions due to previous azadirachtin trea…
Tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick,1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) The old and new challenge
2014
The term Phytosanitary exists within many of the modern and old scientific terms such as: organic farming, plant protection, integrated pest management, national and international movement of plant germplasm, biosecurity, good agricultural practices and others. There are many aspects within those related terms. All those terms have common interests of which the pests' risk be avoided and the environmental health is achieved. Consequently preventive measures, precaution measures and effective testing procedures are required. The study problem is the pest Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), the Tomato leaf miner, this pest is one of the most devastating pests affecting T…

Use of biorational insecticides for the control of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) infestations on open field tomato
2012
Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), the tomato leaf miner, is one of the most devastating pests affecting tomato crops in Italy. Management of T. absoluta was assessed in open-field tests using three biorational insecticides, Azadirachtin, Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki, and Beauveria bassiana, and a combination of three synthetic insecticides, Emamectin, Indoxacarb and Metaflumizone, as a control treatment. Our results showed that only the combination of Azadirachtin – B. thuringiensis was able to reduce the impact of tomato leaf miner on the fruit’s marketable production similarly to the control treatment. This finding suggests that biorational insecticides are a goo…
Effects of azadirachtin on reproduction and egg development of the heteropteranOncopeltus fasciatusDallas
1986
Azadirachtin injected into newly hatched adults of Oncopeltus fasciatus affected longevity, fecundity and hatchability of eggs from treated parents. There were marked differences between males and females. Whereas mortality was higher in females, reproduction was interrupted at lower doses in males: 0.125 μg caused impotency. Topical treatment of normal eggs had no demonstrable effect on egg hatch. The studies showed that in respect to a possible use of azadirachtin in insect pest managment, the interruption of reproduction and adult development is of no less importance then growth interruption in larvae (Dorn et al. 1986). Zusammenfassung Die Wirkung von Azadirachtin auf Reproduktion und E…
