As supports here we report, among others, the use of amorphous and mesoporous silica, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes, magnetic-based silica, polystyrenes, halloysite nanotubes, carbon nanoforms such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanohorns, graphene. The catalytic applications have been divided into two main sections, metal-free based and metal-based reactions.

In vitro and in vivo characterization of porcine acellular dermal matrix for gingival augmentation procedures

Recently, porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) has been proposed as a possible alternative to autogenous grafts in periodontal plastic surgery. The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro responses of four different oral cell lines cultured on a novel PADM. Furthermore, tissue reaction to PADM was evaluated histologically after subcutaneous implantation in mice.Human gingival fibroblasts (HGF), human osteoblast-like cells, human umbilical vein endothelial cells and human oral keratinocytes (HOK) were cultured and transferred on to the PADM. Hepatotoxins can be classified as intrinsic when they exert their effects on all individuals in a dose-dependent manner, and as idiosyncratic when their effects are the consequence of an abnormal metabolism of the drug by susceptible individuals (metabolic idiosyncrasy) or of an immune-mediated injury to hepatocytes (allergic hepatitis). Some xenobiotics are electrophilic, and others are biotransformed by the liver into highly reactive metabolites that are usually more toxic than the parent compound. Hsp60, a mitochondrial chaperonin highly conserved during evolution, has been found elevated in the cytosol of cancer cells, both in vivo and in vitro, but its role in determining apoptosis during oxidative stress (OS) has not yet been fully elucidated. The aim of the present work was to study the effects of OS on Hsp60 levels and its interactions with procaspase- 3 (p-C3) and p53 in tumor cells. Metabolic fluxes and l-lysine synthesis by Corynebacterium glutamicum in relation to cellular total reducing activity

Abstract The total reducing activity (TRA) of cells was used to estimate the physiological activity of Corynebacterium glutamicum under conditions of l -lysine synthesis. This was estimated as the rate of reduction of 2,3,5- triphenyltetrazolium chloride by intact cells. TRA of cells was linearly correlated with the intracellular concentrations of RNA and the bacterial growth rate. It was concluded that this activity reflected the rate of energy generation in cells. A decrease in TRA of growing cells was related to an increase in bacterial lysine synthesis activity. Screening of lactic acid bacteria for reducing power using a tetrazolium salt reduction method on milk agar.

Potential hepatoprotective effects of new Cuban natural products in rat hepatocytes culture.

The protective effects of five Cuban natural products (Mangifera indica L. (MSBE), Erythroxylum minutifolium, Erythroxylum confusum, Thalassia testudinum and Dictyota pinnatifida extracts and mangiferin) on the oxidative damage induced by model toxicants in rat hepatocyte cultures were studied. Cells were pre-incubated with the natural products (5-200 microg/mL) for 24 h. Then hepatotoxins (tert-butyl hydroperoxide, ethanol, carbon tetrachloride and lipopolysaccharide) were individually added and post-incubated for another 24 h.
