A Property on Singularities of NURBS Curves
2002
We prove that if a.n open Non Uniform Rational B-Spline curve of order k has a singular point, then it belongs to both curves of order k - 1 defined in the k - 2 step of the de Boor algorithm. Moreover, both curves are tangent at the singular point.
Functional linear regression with functional rensponse application to prediction of electricity consumption
2008
Functional linear regression model linking observations of a functional response variable with measurements of an explanatory functional variable is considered. The slope function is estimated with a tensor product splines. Some computational issues are addressed by means of a simulation study. This model serves to analyze a real data set concerning electricity consumption in Sardinia. The interest lies in predicting either incoming weekend or incoming weekdays consumption curves if actual weekdays consumption is known.
B-Spline Estimation in a Survey Sampling Framework
2021
Nonparametric regression models have been used more and more over the last years to model survey data and incorporate efficiently auxiliary information in order to improve the estimation of totals, means or other study parameters such as Gini index or poverty rate. B-spline nonparametric regression has the benefit of being very flexible in modeling nonlinear survey data while keeping many similarities and properties of the classical linear regression. This method proved to be efficient for deriving a unique system of weights which allowed to estimate in an efficient way and simultaneously many study parameters. Applications on real and simulated survey data showed its high efficiency. This …
Joint image and motion reconstruction for PET using a B-spline motion model.
2012
We present a novel joint image and motion reconstruction method for PET. The method is based on gated data and reconstructs an image together with a motion function. The motion function can be used to transform the reconstructed image to any of the input gates. All available events (from all gates) are used in the reconstruction. The presented method uses a B-spline motion model, together with a novel motion regularization procedure that does not need a regularization parameter (which is usually extremely difficult to adjust). Several image and motion grid levels are used in order to reduce the reconstruction time. In a simulation study, the presented method is compared to a recently propos…
On the use of a meshless solver for PDEs governing electromagnetic transients
2009
In this paper some key elements of the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics methodology suitably reformulated for analyzing electromagnetic transients are investigated. The attention is focused on the interpolating smoothing kernel function which strongly influences the computational results. Some issues are provided by adopting the polynomial reproducing conditions. Validation tests involving Gaussian and cubic B-spline smoothing kernel functions in one and two dimensions are reported.
Collocation Method for Linear BVPs via B-spline Based Fuzzy Transform
2018
The paper is devoted to an application of a modified F-transform technique based on B-splines in solving linear boundary value problems via the collocation method. An approximate solution is sought as a composite F-transform of a discrete function (which allows the solution to be compactly stored as the values of this discrete function). We demonstrate the effectiveness of the described technique with numerical examples, compare it with other methods and propose theoretical results on the order of approximation when the fuzzy partition is based on cubic B-splines.
Absolutely summing operators on C[0,1] as a tree space and the bounded approximation property
AbstractLet X be a Banach space. For describing the space P(C[0,1],X) of absolutely summing operators from C[0,1] to X in terms of the space X itself, we construct a tree space ℓ1tree(X) on X. It consists of special trees in X which we call two-trunk trees. We prove that P(C[0,1],X) is isometrically isomorphic to ℓ1tree(X). As an application, we characterize the bounded approximation property (BAP) and the weak BAP in terms of X∗-valued sequence spaces.
Real-time image rotation using B-spline interpolation on FPGA's board
1998
The aim of our work is to realize the implementation of a real-time high-quality image rotation on FPGA's board. The method we used is based on M. Unser's work and consists in applying a B-spline interpolator. The difficulty of this problem is due to the relatively weak integration capacity of FPGAs. To solve this problem we have searched for determining the minimum number of bits to code the filter while keeping a good accuracy of filtering output. In this article, we remind a few definitions about B-spline functions and we present how we use B- spline interpolation for the image rotation problem. Then, we describe the way we calculate probability density function of the output error in or…
Electricity consumption prediction with functional linear regression using spline estimators
2010
A functional linear regression model linking observations of a functional response variable with measurements of an explanatory functional variable is considered. This model serves to analyse a real data set describing electricity consumption in Sardinia. The interest lies in predicting either oncoming weekends’ or oncoming weekdays’ consumption, provided actual weekdays’ consumption is known. A B-spline estimator of the functional parameter is used. Selected computational issues are addressed as well.
Gradient-based shape optimisation of ultra-wideband antennas parameterised using splines
2010
Methodology enabling the gradient-based optimisation of antennas parameterised using B-splines is presented. Use of the spline parametrisation allows us to obtain versatile new shapes, whereas the geometry can be represented with a small set of design variables. Moreover, good control over admissible geometries is retained. Advantages of gradient-based optimisation methods are quick convergence, and the fact that the obtained design can be guaranteed to be a local optimum. Focus of this study is to present techniques that enable the computation of exact gradients of the discrete problem, even though the complexity of the geometries does not permit establishing analytical expressions for the…
