Regional development of Romania – a premise for better project financing
2018
The article approaches important aspects regarding the regional development process in Romania in direct correlation with the European Union views and directives in this field. This paper argues that regionalization implies a new reorganization of Romania in view of a balanced development and to increase the absorption of European Funds, which consequently engages regional development, the development of local communities and the decentralization of public administration. Furthermore, in this paper we present the consistency issue concerning the request for territorial- administrative development in Romania, as it originates from the strategic documents, namely the "National Plan of Governa…
Outsourcing under Threat: Estimated Impact of Potential Tariffs on US Imports from Mexico
2017
In this paper, I discuss the effects of certain trade policy measures, mostly import tariffs, presently contemplated by the US government, aimed at enhancing domestic employment in a number of targeted industries. I intend to show that insofar as such measures restrain free trade among NAFTA member-countries, they run counter to a basic rule suggested by conventional theory, stating that, following changes in the tariff structure, resources will shift toward activities that enjoy the highest rate of effective protection. I try to demonstrate that erecting barriers against inside-NAFTA trade, aside from hurting industries that use outsourcing extensively, has little chances to create incenti…
Measures of the Impact of Entrepreneurship on Economic Development in Romania
2017
Entrepreneurship has attracted the attention of many scholars in the last years due to its importance in the economy. Entrepreneurship is considered by many an important factor that could have a positive influence over the economic growth. Despite the recognition of the role of the entrepreneurship there is no general agreement of how entrepreneurship impacts the economy or a specific industry. The aim of this article is to provide some information about entrepreneurship, ways of measuring entrepreneurship, most common metrics used and the impact over the Romanian economy. To underline the relationship between these concepts some analysis were conducted in order to determine if they are cor…
The Role of Capital Accumulation in the Evolution of Total Factor Productivity in Spain
2017
GDP growth in Spain was strong for much of the last half century, whereas the country’s productivity performance during these years has been mediocre. The reasons for this situation have frequently been analysed with the focus on labour productivity. But, as this article highlights, the evolution of capital productivity should also be taken into account when looking for explanations for poor productivity performance. This article analyses the sources of growth in the Spanish economy, in comparison with major economies, and takes into account the effects that the improvements in the measurement of inputs (labour and capital) have on TFP estimates. Once problems are identified and the role pl…
B lymphocyte intestinal homing in inflammatory bowel disease.
2011
Abstract Background Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is thought to be due to an abnormal interaction between the host immune system and commensal microflora. Within the intestinal immune system, B cells produce physiologically natural antibodies but pathologically atypical anti-neutrophil antibodies (xANCAs) are frequently observed in patients with IBD. The objective is to investigate the localisation of immunoglobulin-producing cells (IPCs) in samples of inflamed intestinal tissue taken from patients with IBD, and their possible relationship with clinical features. Methods The IPCs in small intestinal, colonic and rectal biopsy specimens of patients with IBD were analysed by means of immun…
Mobbing – et forsøk på nye teoretiske perspektiv
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Studier i Pædagogisk Filosofi. Also available from the publisher at: http://ojs.statsbiblioteket.dk/index.php/spf/article/view/13325 Open Access This article discusses the understanding of bullying and how it first appears as a phenomenon in early childhood. Empirical research on the social life of young children indicates a capacity for empathy that is independent of social learning. Based upon Merleau-Ponty`s philosophy of the body and Levinas’s existentialist notion of the origin of morality, the article emphasize empathy and the sense of responsibility as a fundamental event in our initial encounter with one another – not learned competence…
Multiplicity results for asymmetric boundary value problems with indefinite weights
2004
We prove existence and multiplicity of solutions, with prescribed nodal properties, to a boundary value problem of the formu″+f(t,u)=0,u(0)=u(T)=0. The nonlinearity is supposed to satisfy asymmetric, asymptotically linear assumptions involving indefinite weights. We first study some auxiliary half-linear, two-weighted problems for which an eigenvalue theory holds. Multiplicity is ensured by assumptions expressed in terms of weighted eigenvalues. The proof is developed in the framework of topological methods and is based on some relations between rotation numbers and weighted eigenvalues.
Progenitor death drives retinal dysplasia and neuronal degeneration in a mouse model of Atrip-Seckel syndrome
2020
ABSTRACT Seckel syndrome is a type of microcephalic primordial dwarfism (MPD) that is characterized by growth retardation and neurodevelopmental defects, including reports of retinopathy. Mutations in key mediators of the replication stress response, the mutually dependent partners ATR and ATRIP, are among the known causes of Seckel syndrome. However, it remains unclear how their deficiency disrupts the development and function of the central nervous system (CNS). Here, we investigated the cellular and molecular consequences of ATRIP deficiency in different cell populations of the developing murine neural retina. We discovered that conditional inactivation of Atrip in photoreceptor neurons …
Increased autophagy and apoptosis contribute to muscle atrophy in a myotonic dystrophy type 1 Drosophila model
2015
ABSTRACT Muscle mass wasting is one of the most debilitating symptoms of myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) disease, ultimately leading to immobility, respiratory defects, dysarthria, dysphagia and death in advanced stages of the disease. In order to study the molecular mechanisms leading to the degenerative loss of adult muscle tissue in DM1, we generated an inducible Drosophila model of expanded CTG trinucleotide repeat toxicity that resembles an adult-onset form of the disease. Heat-shock induced expression of 480 CUG repeats in adult flies resulted in a reduction in the area of the indirect flight muscles. In these model flies, reduction of muscle area was concomitant with increased apopto…
Sobre el origen de la cognición
2008
Ade…
