Sulfate transporters in the plant’s response to drought and salinity: regulation and possible functions
2014
International audience; Drought and salinity are two frequently combined abiotic stresses that affect plant growth, development, and crop productivity. Sulfate, and molecules derived from this anion such as glutathione, play important roles in the intrinsic responses of plants to such abiotic stresses. Therefore, understanding how plants facing environmental constraints re-equilibrate the flux of sulfate between and within different tissues might uncover perspectives for improving tolerance against abiotic stresses. In this review, we took advantage of genomics and post-genomics resources available in Arabidopsis thaliana and in the model legume species Medicago truncatula to highlight and …
Sesquiterpene volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are markers of elicitation by sulfated laminarine in grapevine
2015
SPE IPM UB CT1; International audience; Inducing resistance in plants by the application of elicitors of defense reactions is an attractive plant protection strategy, particularly for grapevine (Vitis vinifera), which is susceptible to severe fungal diseases. Although induced resistance (IR) can be successful under controlled conditions, in most cases, IR is not sufficiently effective for practical disease control under outdoor conditions. Progress in the application of IR requires a better understanding of grapevine defense mechanisms and the ability to monitor defense markers to identify factors, such as physiological and environmental factors, that can impact IR in the vineyard. Volatile…
Pentamidine rescues contractility and rhythmicity in a Drosophila model of myotonic dystrophy heart dysfunction
2015
Up to 80% of individuals with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) will develop cardiac abnormalities at some point during the progression of their disease, the most common of which is heart blockage of varying degrees. Such blockage is characterized by conduction defects and supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia, and carries a high risk of sudden cardiac death. Despite its importance, very few animal model studies have focused on the heart dysfunction in DM1. Here, we describe the characterization of the heart phenotype in a Drosophila model expressing pure expanded CUG repeats under the control of the cardiomyocyte-specific driver GMH5-Gal4. Morphologically, expression of 250 CUG repeat…
Post-translational Modifications in Plant Nuclear Signaling: Novel Insights Into Responses to Environmental Changes
2019
Just imagine a Plant Science professor in front of a classroom full of interested and attentive students. Imagine what their answers to this intriguing question would be: “What are, according to you, the functions ensured by the plant cell nucleus?” It would be very surprising if some of them would answer cell signaling in response to biotic and abiotic stresses or developmental processes. Most of them would probably answer according to a classical point of view: DNA replication or gene expression. Hence it is still admitted in recent publications (see for instance Fedorenko et al., 2010) that molecules smaller than 40 kDa can diffuse freely across the nuclear envelope pores. However, Pauly…
Geostatistical computing of acoustic maps in the presence of barriers
2009
Acoustic maps are the main diagnostic tools used by authorities for addressing the growing problem of urban acoustic contamination. Geostatistics models phenomena with spatial variation, but restricted to homogeneous prediction regions. The presence of barriers such as buildings introduces discontinuities in prediction areas. In this paper we investigate how to incorporate information of a geographical nature into the process of geostatistical prediction. In addition, we study the use of a Cost-Based distance to quantify the correlation between locations.
Cilvēka parvovīrusa B19 infekcijas marķieru un aktivīna B klātbūtne pacientiem ar ME/CF
2021
Iespējams, ME/CFS iedalījums varētu būt ar infekciju saistīta saslimšana. Tādēļ šajā darbā tika pārbaudīta B19 infekcijas marķieru klātbūtne un aktivīna B, potenciālā biomarķiera, koncentrācija ME/CFS pacientiem. Pētījuma ietvaros noteica B19 specifisko IgG/IgM klases antivielu klātbūtni, aktivīna B koncentrāciju, lietojot ELISA testus, un B19 NS genoma sekvences nPCR pilnu asiņu un no šūnām brīvas asins plazmas DNS paraugos ME/CFS pacientiem un praktiski veseliem asins donoriem (PVAD). Ie…
Identification of Partner Proteins of the Algae Klebsormidium nitens NO Synthases: Toward a Better Understanding of NO Signaling in Eukaryotic Photos…
2021
In animals, NO is synthesized from L-arginine by three isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzyme. NO production and effects have also been reported in plants but the identification of its sources, especially the enzymatic ones, remains one of the critical issues in the field. NOS-like activities have been reported, although there are no homologs of mammalian NOS in the land plant genomes sequenced so far. However, several NOS homologs have been found in algal genomes and transcriptomes. A first study has characterized a functional NOS in the chlorophyte Ostreococcus tauri and the presence of NOS homologs was later confirmed in a dozen algae. These results raise the questions of the sig…
Biostimulant Potential of Humic Acids Extracted From an Amendment Obtained via Combination of Olive Mill Wastewaters (OMW) and a Pre-treated Organic …
2018
Olive mill wastewaters (OMW) detain contain significant levels of phenolic compounds with antimicrobial/phytotoxic activity and high amounts of undecomposed organic matter that may a high pollutant load that exerts negative effects on soil biology because of significant levels in phenolic compounds with antimicrobial/phytotoxic activity and limited biodegradability, and high amounts of undecomposed organic matter. Among OMW detoxification techniques, those focusing on oxidative degradation of phenolic compounds are relevant those focusing on oxidative degradation of phenolic compounds to reduce their toxicity. The composting (bio-oxidation) process in particular, exploits exothermic oxidati…
