The Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem for operators
2008
AbstractWe prove the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem for operators from an arbitrary Banach space X into a Banach space Y whenever the range space has property β of Lindenstrauss. We also characterize those Banach spaces Y for which the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem holds for operators from ℓ1 into Y. Several examples of classes of such spaces are provided. For instance, the Bishop–Phelps–Bollobás theorem holds when the range space is finite-dimensional, an L1(μ)-space for a σ-finite measure μ, a C(K)-space for a compact Hausdorff space K, or a uniformly convex Banach space.
Haar Type and Carleson Constants
2009
For a collection ℰ of dyadic intervals, a Banach space X, and p∈(1, 2], we assume the upper l p estimates where x I ∈X, and h I denotes the L ∞ normalized Haar function supported on I. We determine the minimal requirement on the size of ℰ such that these estimates imply that X is of Haar type p. The characterization is given in terms of the Carleson constant of ℰ.
Incomparable Banach spaces and operator semigroups
2002
Using the notions of total incomparability and total coincomparability of Banach spaces, we define two families of operator semigroups. We show that these semigroups are minimal, in the sense that they admit a perturbative characterization. Moreover, they allow us to characterize the corresponding incomparability classes.
On the Zero-Set of Real Polynomials in Non-Separable Banach Spaces
2007
We show constructively that every homogeneous polynomial that is weakly continuous on the bounded subsets of a real Banach space whose dual is not weak ∗ separable admits a closed linear subspace whose dual is not weak ∗ -separable either where the polynomial vanishes. We also prove that the same can be said for vectorvalued polynomials. Finally, we study the validity of this result for continuous 2homogeneous polynomials.
Contractivity results in ordered spaces. Applications to relative operator bounds and projections with norm one
2016
This paper provides various “contractivity” results for linear operators of the form I−C where C are positive contractions on real ordered Banach spaces X. If A generates a positive contraction semigroup in Lebesgue spaces Lp(μ), we show (M. Pierre's result) that A(λ−A)−1 is a “contraction on the positive cone”, i.e. A(λ−A)−1x≤x for all x∈L+p(μ)(λ>0), provided that p⩾2. We show also that this result is not true for 1 ⩽ p<2. We give an extension of M. Pierre's result to general ordered Banach spaces X under a suitable uniform monotony assumption on the duality map on the positive cone X+. We deduce from this result that, in such spaces, I−C is a contraction on X+ for any positive projection…
Modulus of continuity with respect to semigroups of analytic functions and applications
2016
Abstract Given a complex Banach space E , a semigroup of analytic functions ( φ t ) and an analytic function F : D → E we introduce the modulus w φ ( F , t ) = sup | z | 1 ‖ F ( φ t ( z ) ) − F ( z ) ‖ . We show that if 0 α ≤ 1 and F belongs to the vector-valued disc algebra A ( D , E ) , the Lipschitz condition M ∞ ( F ′ , r ) = O ( ( 1 − r ) 1 − α ) as r → 1 is equivalent to w φ ( F , t ) = O ( t α ) as t → 0 for any semigroup of analytic functions ( φ t ) , with φ t ( 0 ) = 0 and infinitesimal generator G , satisfying that φ t ′ and G belong to H ∞ ( D ) with sup 0 ≤ t ≤ 1 ‖ φ ′ ‖ ∞ ∞ , and in particular is equivalent to the condition ‖ F − F r ‖ A ( D , E ) = O ( ( 1 − r ) α ) as r …
A general metric regularity in asplund banach spaces
1998
This paper establishes a simple and easily-applied criterion for determining whether a multivalued mapping is metrically regular relatively to a subset in the range space.
Cluster values of holomorphic functions of bounded type
2015
We study the cluster value theorem for Hb(X), the Fréchet algebra of holomorphic functions bounded on bounded sets of X. We also describe the (size of) fibers of the spectrum of Hb(X). Our results are rather complete whenever X has an unconditional shrinking basis and for X = ℓ1. As a byproduct, we obtain results on the spectrum of the algebra of all uniformly continuous holomorphic functions on the ball of ℓ1. Fil: Aron, Richard Martin. On operator valued sequences of multipliers and R-boundedness
2007

It has been shown that some geometric properties of Banach spaces and some classical theorems can be described using spaces of (p,q)-summing multipliers. The p…
(p,q)-summing sequences
2002
Abstract A sequence (x j ) in a Banach space X is (p,q) -summing if for any weakly q -summable sequence (x j ∗ ) in the dual space we get a p -summable sequence of scalars (x j ∗ (x j )) . We consider the spaces formed by these sequences, relating them to the theory of (p,q) -summing operators. We give a characterization of the case p=1 in terms of integral operators, and show how these spaces are relevant for a general question on Banach spaces and their duals, in connection with Grothendieck theorem.
