Symmetry and Models of Double-Wall BN and TiO2 Nanotubes with Hexagonal Morphology
2011
The line symmetry groups for one-periodic (1D) nanostructures with rotohelical symmetry have been applied for symmetry analysis of double-wall boron nitride and titania nano- tubes (DW BN and TiO2 NTs) formed by rolling up the stoichiometric two-periodic (2D) slabs of hexagonal structure with the same or opposite orientation of translation and chiral vectors. We have considered the two sets of commensurate DW BN and TiO2 NTs with either armchair- or zigzag-type chiralities, i.e., (n1,n1)@(n2,n2 )o r (n1,0)@(n2,0), respectively. To establish theequilibriuminterwalldistancescorrespondingtotheminimaof energy, we have varied chiral indices n1 and n2 of the constituent single-wall (SW) nanotubes…
Photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy in boron nitride nanotubes compared to microcrystalline h‐BN and c‐BN
2005
Photoluminescence spectra and photoluminescence excitation spectra have been measured on samples of hexagonal boron nitride microcrystalline powder, cubic boron nitride single crystal, and boron nitride nanotubes (mixture of single-walled and multi-walled with some h-BN precursor). The reason for studying these 3 samples in a comparative fashion is that nanotube BN, while based on a rolled hexagonal-BN (sp2-bonded) sheet, is expected to take on more sp3 bond-character reminiscent of cubic-BN as the curvature becomes tighter. With some simplicity of statement, this study was planned to view spectroscopy of nanotube BN with respect to its two limiting cases of bond character, all measured in …
Land surface temperature derived from airborne hyperspectral scanner thermal infrared data
2006
Abstract The AHS (airborne hyperspectral scanner) instrument has 80 spectral bands covering the visible and near infrared (VNIR), short wave infrared (SWIR), mid-infrared (MIR), and thermal infrared (TIR) spectral range. The instrument is operated by Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aerospacial (INTA) and it has been involved in several field campaigns since 2004. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the feasibility of retrieving land surface temperature from the 10 AHS thermal infrared bands, from 71 to 80, located in the region between 8 and 13 μm. For this purpose, three different methods have been considered: (i) the single-channel method, which uses only one thermal band; (ii) the sp…
LaCoDa: Layered connected topology for massive data centers
2017
One of the fundamental challenges of existing data centers is to design a network that interconnects massive number of servers, and therefore providing an efficient and fault-tolerant routing service to upper-layer applications. Several solutions have been proposed (e.g. FatTree, DCell and BCube), however they either scale too fast (i.e., double exponentially) or too slow. This paper proposes a new data center topology, called LaCoDa, that combines the advantages of previous topologies while avoiding their limitations. LaCoDa uses a small node degree that matches physical restriction for servers, and it also interconnects a large number of servers while reducing the wiring complexity and wi…
Downlink channel access performance of NR-U: Impact of numerology and mini-slots on coexistence with Wi-Fi in the 5 GHz band
2020
Coexistence between cellular systems and Wi-Fi gained the attention of the research community when LTE License Assisted Access (LAA) entered the unlicensed band. The recent introduction of NR-U as part of 5G introduces new coexistence opportunities because it implements scalable numerology (flexible subcarrier spacing and OFDM symbol lengths), and non-slot based scheduling (mini-slots), which considerably impact channel access. This paper analyzes the impact of NR-U settings on its coexistence with Wi-Fi networks and compares it with LAA operation using simulations and experiments. First, we propose a downlink channel access simulation model, which addresses the problem of the dependency an…
Bandwidth Resource Management for Neural Signal Telemetry
2009
Recent advances in modern neurocomputing have shown the utmost necessity of wireless communication systems that allow real-time (RT) monitoring of neural signals meeting several requirements such as source compression and high fidelity of the received signal. Neural recordings require multielectrode probes with up to hundreds of electrodes and transmission of signals wirelessly over a limited bandwidth (BW). In this paper, a RT resource management algorithm is proposed so that adequate source compression is applied to each channel in order to fit them into the available BW. Performance of the algorithm is analyzed using dynamically changing BW and neural recordings with different neural act…
Synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons in the olfactory bulb of the cynomolgus monkey.
2015
The olfactory bulb (OB) of mammals receives cholinergic afferents from the horizontal limb of the diagonal band of Broca (HDB). At present, the synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons on the circuits of the OB has only been investigated in the rat. In this report, we analyze the synaptic connectivity of the cholinergic axons in the OB of the cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis). Our aim is to investigate whether the cholinergic innervation of the bulbar circuits is phylogenetically conserved between macrosmatic and microsmatic mammals. Our results demonstrate that the cholinergic axons form synaptic contacts on interneurons. In the glomerular layer, their main targets are the peri…
ChemInform Abstract: Nb2Te3, a Niobium Sesquitelluride with Te22- Groups.
2010
The new binary compound Nb2Te3 was synthesized by reduction of NbTe2 with Ga metal; different from the formally analogous Ta2Te3 it crystallizes in the Mo2As3 structure type; based on the results of band structure calculations Nb2Te3 is metallic with quasi one-dimensional metal electronic properties.
