HF Noise Measurements Based on Software Defined Radio Dual Receiver and Two Orthogonal Inverted Vee Antennas
2020
Increasing the data transfer rate in the High Frequency (HF) range involves enlarging the bandwidth of the channel from the standard value of 3 kHz to values of 6, 12, 24, 48 and even 96 kHz. Real-time evaluation of the noise power in the channel under such conditions is essential. This paper aims to implement an automated system for real-time measurement of noise in the HF range. It is composed of two Software Defined Radio (SDR) synchronized receivers and two orthogonal Inverted Vee antennas. Testing the system demonstrates its ability to distinguish between noise and signals generated as a result of human activity. Preliminary results of measurements performed in an urban location are co…
A narrowband MIMO car-to-car channel model based on the geometrical street scattering model
2012
In this paper, we model a narrowband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) car-to-car (C2C) channel model based on the geometrical street scattering model. Starting from the geometrical model, a MIMO reference channel model is derived under the assumption of single-bounce scattering in line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) propagation environments. In the proposed channel model, an infinite number of scatterers are uniformly distributed in rectangular grids located on both sides of the street. Analytical solutions are presented for the three-dimensional (3D) space-time cross-correlation function (CCF), the temporal autocorrelation function (ACF), and the two-dimensional (2D) space CCF. An …
Evaluation of the AVHRR surface reflectance long term data record between 1984 and 2011
2021
Abstract The long-term data record (LTDR) from the Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) provides daily surface reflectance with global coverage from the 1980s to present day, making it a unique source of information for the study of land surface properties and their long-term dynamics. Surface reflectance is a critical input for the generation of products such as vegetation indices, albedo, and land cover. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to quantify its uncertainties to better understand how they might propagate into downstream products. Due to the prolonged length of the surface reflectance LTDR and previous unavailability of a well calibrated reference, no comprehensive …
Tradition and Legitimation in North Korea
2017
Since its debut in 2012, the Moranbong Band has served as a key symbol for the Kim Jongun-era ruling style, limited cosmopolitanism, and ultimately political conservatism. This article analyses the legitimacy strategies of North Korean official culture in the light of perceived internal needs for change, even as the foundations of the traditional personality cult remain intact and strengthened by the Band’s performances. Analysis of musical performances online and relevant comparative literature on North Korean music form the core of the article. Finally, the article shows the arc from the Band as an innovative symbol of possible liberalization into a far more conservative implement as time…
F centre production in CsI and CsI–Tl crystals under Kr ion irradiation at 15 K
2000
Abstract We present results of simultaneous in situ luminescence and optical absorption studies in scintillator CsI and CsI–Tl crystals, exposed to very dense electronic excitations induced by 86Kr ions (8.63 MeV/amu). Irradiation at 15 K leads to the formation of the prominent F absorption band. In addition, several other features of the broad absorption between exciton and F bands were ascribed to an anion vacancy, α centre (240 nm), self-trapped hole, Vk centre (410 nm) and interstitials, H centres (560 nm). We have found that low doping of thallium (∼1017 cm−3) causes the F centre formation to proceed more rapidly than in pure crystal. On the other hand, we were not able to create any a…
Comparative ab initio calculations of SrTiO3/BaTiO3 and SrZrO3/PbZrO3 (0 0 1) heterostructures
2016
Abstract Using a B3PW hybrid exchange–correlation functional within the density functional theory (DFT) we calculated from the first principles the electronic structure of BaTiO 3 /SrTiO 3 and PbZrO 3 /SrZrO 3 (0 0 1) interfaces. The optical band gap of both BaTiO 3 /SrTiO 3 and PbZrO 3 /SrZrO 3 (0 0 1) interfaces depends mostly from BaO or TiO 2 and SrO or ZrO 2 termination of the upper layer, respectively. Based on the results of our calculations we predict increase of the Ti–O and Zr–O chemical bond covalency near the SrTiO 3 /BaTiO 3 and SrZrO 3 /PbZrO 3 (0 0 1) interfaces as compared to the BaTiO 3 and PbZrO 3 bulk.
In-beam spectroscopy of224Th
1986
A rotational band with states of alternating parity has been populated in224Th via the208Pb(18O, 2n) reaction. Spins up to Iπ=10>+ (11−) are identified. Stretched El and E2 transitions compete in the deexcitation, the average ratio of the reduced transition probabilities being B(E1)/B(E2)=(1.5±0.4)×10−6 fm−2. This ratio implies that224Th has one of the largest intrinsic electric dipole moments observed so far.
High-spin bands in117,119I and118Xe
1984
Excited states in117I,118Xe and119I were populated in the reactions106Pd+16O and108, 110Cd+12C. The groundstate band in118Xe was observed to its (18+) member and the 11/2− bands in117I and119I to their (35/2−) and (43/2−) members, respectively. The structure of the bands in the I isotopes is interpreted as aπ h11/2 proton coupled to an even-even band structure in Xe, and the band crossings observed in118Xe and119I are interpreted in the Cranked Shell Model framework asABn ofv h11/2.

Optical absorption and Raman studies of neutron-irradiated Gd3Ga5O12 single crystals
2018
Abstract In this work we have performed a comparative analysis of optical absorption and micro-Raman spectra for series of Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) single crystals irradiated by fast neutrons with fluences from 1016 n/cm2 to 1018 n/cm2. It was found that the optical absorption spectra of non-irradiated Czochralski grown GGG consist of the relatively narrow lines in the UV spectral range related to the 4f–4f transitions in Gd3+. Transitions from the 6S7/2 ground state to the 6P, 6J and 6D states in a Gd3+ cation are clearly detected. For a GGG crystal containing Ca impurity ions, additional absorption band at 350 nm is observed, and it is tentatively ascribed to oxygen vacancies associated with Ca im…
