Design of an integrated low-noise, low-power charge sensitive preamplifier for γ and particle spectroscopy with solid state detectors
2014
The design of an integrated charge-sensitive preamplifier suitable for γ-ray spectroscopy is presented. It is fully integrated, except for the feedback resistor, and can drive directly a 50Ω cable with its low impedance output stage. It is designed in AMS 0.35µm technology and its small dimensions and low power consumption (10 mW) are optimized for multi-channel applications. It works both with germanium and silicon detectors for a large range of values of electrode and feedback capacitances. Its wide bandwidth ensures a risetime of 10 ns or less in most configurations. This characteristic makes the preamplifier suitable not only for high resolution spectroscopy but also for pulse-shape ana…
Ultra-broadband terahertz time domain spectroscopy by Solid State Biased Coherent Detection
2017
The spectral fingerprint of ibuprofen within the THz frequency window has been retrieved through an ultra-broadband THz Time Domain Spectrometry set-up. The latter implements the Solid State Biased Coherent Detection scheme, based on a compact CMOS-compatible integrated device. Such a technique shows unprecedented advantages in term of bandwidth (greater than 10 THz) over other solid state methods like electro-optic sampling.
The role of nonlinear optical absorption in narrowband difference-frequency terahertz-wave generation
2010
We present a general analysis of the influence of nonlinear optical absorption on terahertz generation via optical difference frequency generation, when reaching for the quantum conversion efficiency limit. By casting the equations governing the process in a suitably normalized form, including either two-photon- or three-photon-absorption terms, we have been able to plot universal charts for phase matched optical-to-terahertz conversion for different values of the nonlinear absorption coefficients. We apply our analysis to some experiments reported to date, in order to understand to what extent multiphoton absorption could have played a role and also to predict the maximum achievable conver…
A broadband multifocal metalens in the terahertz frequency range
2016
Abstract Metasurfaces, the 2D form of metamaterials with their ability in phase, amplitude and polarization manipulation are widely used in designing optical devices. Efforts to find proper photonic components in the terahertz (THz) range of frequency lead us to adopt metasurfaces as their constituent elements. Here, we conceived a broadband THz lens with an adjustable number and arrangement of focal points. To have a full control over the lens functionality, we used a metasurface with the capability of simultaneously modulating the amplitude and phase of the incident wave. C-shaped ring resonators (CSRRs) with different geometry and orientation capable of simultaneously manipulating phase …
Tapered Two-Wire Waveguide for Time-Domain Integration of Broadband Terahertz Pulses
2021
We show the time-domain integration of terahertz pulses achieved in a sub-wavelength, tapered two-wire waveguide. Both simulation and experimental results prove the time integration functionality of this waveguide topology.
Spatio-temporal control of ultra-short pulses by using diffractive optical elements
2012
Diffractive optical elements (DOEs) have shown their applicability to control the spatio-temporal characteristics of ultra-short laser pulses. DOEs can provide high efficiency, compactness, very low material dispersion and, when implemented with spatial light modulators, real-time pulse engineering. In this communication, we report management of temporal and spectral profiles of ultra-short pulses by means of a quasi-direct space-to-time (QDST) pulse shaper. Moreover, we present spatio-temporal control, including dispersion compensation, by DOEs, and applications for activating nonlinear processes. On the other hand, we have achieved complete spatial control of ultra-short pulses, overcomin…
Compact dielectric reflective elements II Multichannel filter of closely spaced spectral bands
1994
The optical design of an interference wedge filter providing the simultaneous separation of a number of closely spaced spectral bands is studied. Multiple reflections of the incident collimated beam within the wedge are initiated, each of them characterized by a different angle of incidence and consequently by specific spectral parameters of the transmitted band. Model calculations based on the measured angular dependences of filter transmission parameters have been performed. The design is proposed for applications in optical communications (wavelength division demultiplexing), analytical spectroscopy (minipolychromators), color analysis, and similar areas.
A Preliminary BeppoSAX Study of the (Bright) Atoll Source GX 9+1
2003
We report the preliminary results of a 350 ks BeppoSAX observation of the bright atoll source GX 9+1. In the field of view of the MECS instrument we discovered a X-ray pulsar, designated SAX J1802.7 - 2017, at an angular distance from GX 9+1 of ∼ 22 ′ . Since the X-ray emission of SAX J1802.7 - 2017 contaminates the energy spectrum above 10 keV we studied the energy spectrum of GX 9+1 in the energy band 0.1 - 10keV. We selected four regions in the color-color diagram and extracted one spectrum from each region. A bump below 1keV is present in the spectra using a model composed by a Comptonized component absorbed by neutral matter having an equivalent hydrogen column of 1.5 x 10 22 cm -2 . T…
ASTEROID SEARCH RESULTS FOR DIGITIZED ASTROPLATES OF 1.2m TELESCOPE IN BALDONE
2019
The work on the mass search for asteroids on astroplate images and the determination of their coordi- nates was begun in 2016. The basis for current search was the processing results of digitized photographic plates and films obtained at the observatory in Baldone in 1967-1993. Observations with a single exposure in different spectral bands were carried out using the 1.2m Schmidt telescope in Baldone. We used all observations in the U Johnson's spec- tral band (on plates) and significant part of them in V band (on films). Photometric band U was realized by combining emulsion ORWO Zu1 (Zu2 or Zu21 or Kodak 103aO or IIaO) with UG1 filter. For films with A600 emulsion and filter ZS17 a photome…
