This document shows us an innovative educational project to combat school failure through activities to promote music. This project, called Música als curts, has been carried out in the CEIP Heretats de l'Alcúdia during the school year 2012-2013.
Reconstruction of human subsistence and husbandry strategies from the Iberian Early Neolithic: A stable isotope approach
2018
Objectives The Early Neolithic involved an important social and economic shift that can be tested not only with the material culture, but also through biomolecular approaches. The Iberian Peninsula presents few Early Neolithic sites where fauna and humans can be analyzed together from an isotopic perspective. Here we present an isotopic study on the site of Cueva de Chaves as an example for understanding the dietary and economical changes that took place during Early Neolithic in Iberia. Material and methods Here we apply carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis to bone collagen from 4 humans and 64 faunal samples from 14 different species. The large dataset belongs to the same unique ch…
RGB imaging of laser-excited skin autofluorescence bleaching rates
2010
In-vivo skin photo-bleaching (intensity decrease during irradiation) has been investigated at 405 nm cw laser excitation. Digital RGB photo-camera was used for studies of the bleaching features by analysis of fluorescent images at separated R, G and B spectral bands. Diagnostic potential based on correlations between skin pigmentation and bleaching rates is discussed.
Formation Ages and Environments of Early Precambrian Banded Iron Formation in the North China Craton
2016
The North China Craton (NCC) has had a long geological history back to ca. 3.8 Ga ago, but the most important tectonothermal event occurred at the end of the Neoarchean, the most important period of BIF formation. There are three ancient terranes (>2.6 Ga) in the NCC. Most BIFs are distributed along the western margin of the Eastern Ancient Terrane, accounting for about 89 % of the total identified BIF iron ore resources in the NCC. They are considered to have formed on a continental basement in terms of rock association of the BIF-bearing supracrustal sequences which were intruded by slightly younger crustally derived granites. Most BIFs in the NCC show positive Y anomalies, implying that …
Hydraulic properties of fault zones in porous carbonates, examples from central and southern Italy
2016
We present the results of in situ permeability measurements performed, using a portable field permeameter, on normal and strike-slip fault zones that crosscut high-porosity carbonate grainstones. The measurement sites expose in the Cretaceous Orfento Formation of the Majella Mountain (Abruzzo, Italy), and the Lower Pleistocene deposits of the Favignana Island (Sicily, Italy). Nine small-displacement, compactive shear banding-based fault zones have been tested in the field. The fault offset ranges between 10 and 200 centimeters. The acquired permeability data indicate a two orders of magnitude decrease of porosity and permeability from the host rock to the cataclastic fault cores. A clear de…
Deformation and fluid flow in the Huab Basin and Etendeka Plateau, NW Namibia
2016
Abstract The Lower Cretaceous Twyfelfontein sandstone formation in the Huab Basin in NW Namibia shows the effects of volcanic activity on a potential reservoir rock. The formation was covered by the Parana-Etendeka Large Igneous Province shortly before or during the onset of South-Atlantic rifting. Deformation bands found in the sandstone trend mostly parallel to the continental passive margin and must have formed during the extrusion of the overlying volcanic rocks, indicating that their formation is related to South-Atlantic rifting. 2D-image porosity analysis of deformation bands reveals significant porosity reduction from host rock to band of up to 70%. Cementation of the sandstone, lin…
Temporal loudness weights in background noise: Data and models
2019
Previous studies consistently showed that human listeners primarily consider the beginning of a time-varying sound when judging its overall loudness, and place less weight on subsequent temporal portions. However, all experiments studying this primacy effect in temporal loudness weights presented the target sound in quiet. Here, we compared temporal weights when the target sound was either presented in quiet or in a continuous background noise, and for a variation in the level of the target sound across a range of 60 dB. The target sound was a time-varying narrowband noise, the background noise was a continuous bandpass-filtered noise. In all conditions, we observed the expected primacy eff…
Growth processes, dimensional parameters and scaling relationships of two conjugate sets of compactive shear bands in porous carbonate grainstones, F…
2012
Abstract Three main sets of deformation bands are identified in the Lower Pleistocene carbonate grainstones of Favignana Island (Italy). A bedding-parallel set is interpreted to contain compaction bands, based on the lack of evidence for shear. The other two sets are oriented at a high-angle to bedding, forming a conjugate pair comprised of compactive strike-slip shear bands. In this study, we focus on the compactive shear bands documenting their development, as well as analyzing their dimensional parameters and scaling relationships. Single compactive shear bands are thin, tabular zones with porosity less than the surrounding host rocks, and have thicknesses and displacements on the order …
G-CLASS: geosynchronous radar for water cycle science – orbit selection and system design
2019
The mission geosynchronous – continental land atmosphere sensing system (G-CLASS) is designed to study thediurnal water cycle, using geosynchronous radar. Although the water cycle is vital to human society, processes on timescalesless than a day are very poorly observed from space. G-CLASS, using C-band geosynchronous radar, could transform this. Itsscience objectives address intense storms and high resolution weather prediction, and significant diurnal processes such assnow melt and soil moisture change, with societal impacts including agriculture, water resource management, flooding, andlandslides. Secondary objectives relate to ground motion observations for earthquake, volcano, and subs…
