Mapping symbols to sounds: electrophysiological correlates of the impaired reading process in dyslexia
2012
Dyslexic and control first-grade school children were compared in a Symbol-to-Sound matching test based on a non-linguistic audiovisual training which is known to have a remediating effect on dyslexia. Visual symbol patterns had to be matched with predicted sound patterns. Sounds incongruent with the corresponding visual symbol (thus not matching the prediction) elicited the N2b and P3a event-related potential (ERP) components relative to congruent sounds in control children. Their ERPs resembled the ERP effects previously reported for healthy adults with this paradigm. In dyslexic children, N2b onset latency was delayed and its amplitude significantly reduced over left hemisphere whereas P…
The non-surgical management for hemorrhoidal disease. A systematic review
2017
The non-surgical treatments for hemorrhoids are cost and time-saving techniques usually performed in patients suffering early hemorrhoidal disease. The most used are rubber band ligation (RBL), injection sclerotherapy (IS), and infrared coagulation (IRC). We performed a systematic review in order to evaluate: do these procedures really help to avoid further more aggressive treatments? What are the common harms? What are the rare harms? How many recurrences there are? A total of 21 RCTs were included in this review: 12 on RBL, 4 on IRC and 5 on IS. In RBL bleeding stops in up to 90% and III degree hemorrhoids improves in 78%-83.8%. IV degree prolapse should have a more invasive treatment. Th…
Short-term Psychological Interventions for Bordeline Personality Disorder–What Works?
2017
IntroductionBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a common and disabling personality disorder associated with difficulties in controlling emotions and impulses, self-injury, feelings of emptiness and abandonment. It is associated with problems in many areas of life, most notably relationships. Psychotherapy is the first-line treatment for people with borderline personality disorder widely used; however, the evidence is not thoroughly investigated. In addition, several specific short-term interventions have been developed during the last decades.ObjectivesWe are currently updating this cochrane collaboration review on psychological interventions for BPD. First findings on the up-to-date e…
Ibandronic acid subsequent to raloxifene: Effect on bone metabolism and on cardiovascular risk factors
2015
s / Maturitas 81 (2015) 144–190 161 Materials andmethods: This randomized double-blind clinical trialwas carried out inAhvaz (Iran) fromAugust toDecember 2010. Forty postmenopausal women with symptoms of vaginal atrophy were randomly allocated to two groups to take vaginal suppositories of either 5mg hyaluronic acid sodium salt (n=20) or 1mg vitamin E (n=20) for 8 weeks. The symptoms of vaginal atrophy were evaluated by a self-assessed 4-point scale and the composite score was determined as none, mild, moderate, and severe in four periods. Results: The results showed that the symptoms were relieved significantly in both groups (P<0.001). The relief of symptomswas significantly superior in t…
Outpatient Treatment of Hemorrhoidal Disease: The Alternative Way to Treat Hemorrhoidal Disease in a Simple, Safe and Effective Manner.
2021
Background:: Hemorrhoidal disease is a widespread problem in healthy working patients. The traditional surgical approaches cause a loss of several working days related to the post-- operative course that is often painful. To avoid these problems while offering a symptoms resolution in patients with low degrees hemorrhoids, the non-surgical treatments are nowadays largely proposed in proctological clinics. Methods: We resume the recent literature on the issue to offer a practical and easy to use guide for clinicians. Results: Rubber band ligation, injection sclerotherapy and infrared coagulation are cost effective, safe and effective treatments for patients with II- and III-degree hemorrhoi…
Single Event Transients and Pulse Quenching Effects in Bandgap Reference Topologies for Space Applications
2016
An architectural performance comparison of bandgap voltage reference variants, designed in a $0.18~\mu \text {m}$ CMOS process, is performed with respect to single event transients. These are commonly induced in microelectronics in the space radiation environment. Heavy ion tests (Silicon, Krypton, Xenon) are used to explore the analog single-event transients and have revealed pulse quenching mechanisms in analogue circuits. The different topologies are compared, in terms of cross-section, pulse duration and pulse amplitude. The measured results, and the explanations behind the findings, reveal important guidelines for designing analog integrated circuits, which are intended for space appli…

Kontrabandas tiesiskais regulējums un tā vēsturiskā attīstība Latvijā
2016
Ņemot vērā Latvijas valsts ģeogrāfisko atrašanās vietu, tā vienmēr būs viena no valstīm, kurā liela daļa preču tiks ievestas kontrabandas ceļā, kas nozīmē to, ka kontrabandas izdarīšana Latvijā vienmēr būs aktuāla. Maģistra darba mērķis - analizēt Krimināllikumā ietverto kontrabandas regulējumu, padziļinātu uzmanību pievēršot vērtējuma jēdzieniem, kas i…
