Local dynamic properties of the heme pocket in native and solvent-induced molten-globule-like states of cytochrome c
2002
We report the Soret absorption band, down to cryogenic temperature, of native and molten-globule-like state of horse heart cytochrome c. The band profile is analyzed in terms of vibronic coupling of the heme normal modes to the electronic transition in the framework of the Franck-Condon approximation. From the temperature dependence of the Gaussian broadening and of the peak position, we obtain information on the 'bath' of low frequency harmonic motions of the heme group within the heme pocket. The reported data indicate that, compared to the native state, the less rigid tertiary structure of the molten globule is reflected in a higher flexibility of the heme pocket and in greater conformat…
First narrow-band search for continuous gravitational waves from known pulsars in advanced detector data
2017
Spinning neutron stars asymmetric with respect to their rotation axis are potential sources of continuous gravitational waves for ground-based interferometric detectors. In the case of known pulsars a fully coherent search, based on matched filtering, which uses the position and rotational parameters obtained from electromagnetic observations, can be carried out. Matched filtering maximizes the signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio, but a large sensitivity loss is expected in case of even a very small mismatch between the assumed and the true signal parameters. For this reason, {\it narrow-band} analyses methods have been developed, allowing a fully coherent search for gravitational waves from known …

Near surface seismostratigraphic modelling of the Bandita plain in Palermo town (Italy) from integra-ted analysis of HVSR and stratigraphic data
2016
The Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) noise method (Nakamura, 1989) is nowadays widely used to estimate the resonance frequencies of geological structures (Bonnefoy-Claudet, 2006). However, often HVSR is also used to obtain information on the depth of the seismic bedrock and on thickness and seismic velocity of the process overburden deposits, using inversion techniques of the H/V curve (Fäh et al., 2003). This nevertheless produce results with large uncertainty intervals of parameters, and then must be necessarily constrained by detailed stratigraphic information. An application of HVSR inversion is presented in order to verify the effectiveness of this technique for purposes of…
Ein neues Fragment des Midrasch Bereschit Rabba
2021
2020
The benefits of strength training programs with isoto-nic free weights or machines have been well-documen-ted in all age groups. However, exercise and healthcare professionals sometime question whether it is possible to obtain the same results with devices of variable re-sistance, such as elastic bands. To answer this question, the purpose of this systematic review was to identify and summarize the positive effects of elastic resistance exercises used across the lifespan on health outcomes including body composition, functional and performan-ce capacity, and biochemical variables. A secondary aim was to identify common dosage parameters of strength training programs using elastic resistance…
Hole burning and pressure phenomena in chromoproteins
1993
Abstract We investigated the behavior of spectral holes under pressure at various frequencies within the inhomogeneous band for two proteins, namely myoglobin and horseradish peroxidase. In order to achieve narrow bandwidth hole burning, the heme chromophore was replaced by protoporphyrin IX and mesoporphyrin IX, respectively. In myoglobin, we found that the pressure induced shift of the holes varied in a strongly non-linear fashion, when the burn-frequency was tuned across the absorption band. In horseradish peroxidase the pressure shift was linear with burn-frequency but changed in a dramatic fashion upon complex formation with a substrate molecule. These observations are interpreted with…
Suzaku broad-band spectrum of 4U 1705-44: probing the reflection component in the hard state
2015
Iron emission lines at 6.4-6.97 keV, identified with Kalpha radiative transitions, are among the strongest discrete features in the X-ray band. These are one of the most powerful probes to infer the properties of the plasma in the innermost part of the accretion disk around a compact object. In this paper we present a recent Suzaku observation, 100-ks effective exposure, of the atoll source and X-ray burster 4U 1705-44, where we clearly detect signatures of a reflection component which is distorted by the high-velocity motion in the accretion disk. The reflection component consists of a broad iron line at about 6.4 keV and a Compton bump at high X-ray energies, around 20 keV. All these feat…
NuSTARandXMM–Newtonbroad-band spectrum of SAX J1808.4–3658 during its latest outburst in 2015
2018
The first discovered accreting millisecond pulsar, SAX J1808.4-3658, went into X-ray outburst in April 2015. We triggered a 100 ks XMM-Newton ToO, taken at the peak of the outburst, and a 55 ks NuSTAR ToO, performed four days apart. We report here the results of a detailed spectral analysis of both the XMM-Newton and NuSTAR spectra. While the XMM-Newton spectrum appears much softer than in previous observations, the NuSTAR spectrum confirms the results obtained with XMM-Newton during the 2008 outburst. We find clear evidence of a broad iron line that we interpret as produced by reflection from the inner accretion disk. For the first time, we use a self-consistent reflection model to fit the…
Analysis of high excited "hot" bands of the SO2 molecule
2011
The main goal of the present study is to analyse rotational structures of highly excited "hot" vibrational bands, v1+2v2-v2 and 2v2+v3-v2, v2+3v3-v2 and 2v1+v2+v3-v2, and v2+2v3-v2. All of these bands are located in the region of considerably stronger bands, v1 + v2 and v2 + v3, 3v3 and 2v1+v3, and 2v3, respectively . On that reason, as the first step of analysis, we made assignments of transitions belonging to these strong bands. As the result of analysis, we were able to assign three times more transitions to the bands v1 + v2 , v2 + v3, and 3v3 (3360 transitions with Jmax. = 78 and Kmax.a = 27 to the band v1 + v2, and 2380 transitions with Jmax. = 69 and Kmax.a = 24 to the band v2 + v3, …
