Sobre el origen de la cognición

El presente artículo se ocupa de examinar dos teorías sobre el origen de la cognición. La primera de ellas es una teoría neurobiológica de los autores V. Mountcastle y J. Hawkins, pero trabajando independientemente el uno del otro. La segunda teoría pertenece a la Psicología Cognitiva y es de D. Gentner. Es interesante comprobar la fuerte congruencia que existe entre ambas teorías a pesar de tener, naturalmente, metodologías totalmente diferentes. Por dos caminos distintos se llega a postular la analogía y sus mecanismos como el principal elemento de la cognición. Naturaleza y alcance del método lógico del Fedón

En la biografía intelectual de Sócrates que Platón relata en el Fedón, aquél, cuando describe su"segunda singladura" (99d) en la investigación de"la causa de la generación y de la destrucción de las cosas" (95d), apela en varias ocasiones a un método de investigación alternativo al empleado por los antiguos fisiólogos: método al que suele aludirse en la bibliografía sobre Platón con el rótulo de método lógico. El objetivo de este trabajo es doble: esclarecer, por una parte, la naturaleza de dicho método y su relación con la dialéctica; y, por otra, examinar su alcance y sus presupuestos.

Wittgenstein’s later philosophy addresses the subject of connection between the psychic life of the individual and social context, represented by language games which are played within a form of life. The purpose of this article is to write a short guide on the macroscopic anatomy of the stomach, describing its structures, its relationships within the abdominal cavity and the dissection methods used during the internship performed by a group of students from the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, at the University of Malta, Msida, Malta, during the Summer of 2018. Indeed, they had the opportunity to spend a period of two weeks at the department of Anatomy in the Maltese University for studying and practicing on some corpses, with the aim of improving their anatomical knowledge.
Clinical manifestations of head and neck cancer in pediatric patients, an analysis of 253 cases in a single Brazilian center

Pediatric head and neck cancer (PHNC) is rare and its nonspecific clinical manifestations may often lead to delayed diagnosis. We aimed to describe the signs, symptoms, and clinicopathological characteristics of PHNC. Medical records were retrospectively reviewed for all PHNC cases diagnosed from 1986 to 2016 affecting patients aged 19-years and younger from a tertiary referral center in Brazil. Demographic variables, anatomical site of primary tumors, histopathological diagnoses, signs and symptoms, and patterns of misdiagnosis were collected and interpreted by statistical and descriptive analysis. HBDI-like chromophores represent a novel set of biomimetic switches mimicking the fluorophore of the green fluorescent protein that are currently studied with the hope to expand the molecular switch/motor toolbox. However, until now members capable of absorbing visible light in their neutral (i. e. non-anionic) form have not been reported. In this contribution we report the preparation of an HBDI-like chromophore based on a 3-phenylbenzofulvene scaffold capable of absorbing blue light and photoisomerizing on the picosecond timescale. On a Robin (p,q)-equation with a logistic reaction

We consider a nonlinear nonhomogeneous Robin equation driven by the sum of a \(p\)-Laplacian and of a \(q\)-Laplacian (\((p,q)\)-equation) plus an indefinite potential term and a parametric reaction of logistic type (superdiffusive case). We prove a bifurcation-type result describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter \(\lambda \gt 0\) varies. Also, we show that for every admissible parameter \(\lambda \gt 0\), the problem admits a smallest positive solution.
