Virtual reality in the treatment of claustrophobic fear: A controlled, multiple-baseline design

2000

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) exposure in the treatment of claustrophobic fear. We evaluated the intervention following a controlled, multiple-baseline design across 4 participants with claustrophobic fear who sought psychological help in our anxiety disorders clinic. The treatment consisted of 8 individual VR graded exposure sessions. Data were obtained at pretreatment, posttreatment, and 3-month follow-up on several clinical measures: Behavioral Avoidance Test, Self-Efficacy Toward Closed Spaces, Problem-Related Impairment Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory (Beck, 1978), and Anxiety Sensitivity Index (Peterson & Reiss, 1992). Entre Domat et Beccaria: Muratori et la codification de la jurisprudence

2014

A classical text from the ltalian legal literature of the first half of the eighteenth century, but little known outside Italy, the treaty De’ difetti della giurisprudenza (On the Defects of Jurisprudence, 1742) is the work of historian and philosopher Lodovico Antonio Muratori who was from Modena. Since he was opposed to the alterations which had changed the common law inspired by Justinian principles, his treaty embraces the passion of the century for a new legal rationality. Partly dependent on the design of unification of the Roman law developed by Jean Domat, Muratori’s critical thinking feeds in its turn Baccaria’s draft to streamline the right to punish. Thus, between the time of con…

ELSA 2014 Cohort: Risk Factors Associated With Heavy Episodic Drinking Trajectories in Argentinean College Students

2020

Heavy episodic drinking (HED) is highly prevalent in college students. In Argentina, there is a notable lack of longitudinal studies examining drinking trajectories. The present study identified HED trajectories in Argentinean college students during the first 3 years of college (seven waves) and examined the association between risk factors for alcohol use and HED trajectories. The sample was composed of 1,240 college students [63.1% women, aged 18–25 years (M = 19.1 ± 1.7)] who completed at least three waves (the first data collection and ≥2 follow-ups). For 3 years, participants completed seven surveys that measured HED frequency, age of drinking onset, drunkenness occurrence, trait impu…

Binge-Like, Naloxone-Sensitive, Voluntary Ethanol Intake at Adolescence Is Greater Than at Adulthood, but Does Not Exacerbate Subsequent Two-Bottle C…

2020

The present study assessed the effects of ethanol exposure during adolescence or adulthood. We exposed Wistar rats, males or females, to self-administered 8–10% (v/v) ethanol (BINGE group) during the first 2 h of the dark cycle, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) during postnatal days (PDs) 32–54 or 72–94 (adolescent and adults, respectively). During this period, controls were only handled, and a third (IP) condition was given ethanol intraperitoneal administrations, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), at doses that matched those self-administered by the BINGE group. The rats were tested for ethanol intake and preference in a two-bottle (24 h long) choice tes…

Shuttling-Based Trapped-Ion Quantum Information Processing

2020

Moving trapped-ion qubits in a microstructured array of radiofrequency traps offers a route toward realizing scalable quantum processing nodes. Establishing such nodes, providing sufficient functionality to represent a building block for emerging quantum technologies, e.g., a quantum computer or quantum repeater, remains a formidable technological challenge. In this review, the authors present a holistic view on such an architecture, including the relevant components, their characterization, and their impact on the overall system performance. The authors present a hardware architecture based on a uniform linear segmented multilayer trap, controlled by a custom-made fast multichannel arbitra…

Scalable Creation of Long-Lived Multipartite Entanglement.

2017

We demonstrate the deterministic generation of multipartite entanglement based on scalable methods. Four qubits are encoded in Ca+40, stored in a microstructured segmented Paul trap. These qubits are sequentially entangled by laser-driven pairwise gate operations. Between these, the qubit register is dynamically reconfigured via ion shuttling operations, where ion crystals are separated and merged, and ions are moved in and out of a fixed laser interaction zone. A sequence consisting of three pairwise entangling gates yields a four-ion Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state |ψ=(1/2)(|0000+|1111), and full quantum state tomography reveals a state fidelity of 94.4(3)%. We analyze the decoherence o…

Encriptación óptica empleando llaves Weierstrass-Mandelbrot

2013

[EN] This paper presents the generation of encryption keys using the local oscillating properties of the partial sums of Weierstrass-Mandelbrot fractal function. In this way, the security key can be replicated if the parameters used to obtain it are known. Therefore, these parameters can be sent instead of sending the key. This procedure reduces the amount of information to be sent and prevents possible interception of the key. Moreover, the key can not be affected by data loss or pollution. The effectiveness of the Weierstrass-Mandelbrot keys were demonstrated by computer simulation in a 4f optical encryption system and the double random phase encoding technique. These keys allow us to enc…

Anomalous transport properties of the half-metallic ferromagnets Co 2 TiSi, Co 2 TiGe and Co 2 TiSn

2011

In this work the theoretical and experimental investigations of Co2TiZ (Z = Si, Ge, or Sn) compounds are reported. Half-metallic ferromagnetism is predicted for all three compounds with only two bands crossing the Fermi energy in the majority channel. The magnetic moments fulfill the Slater-Pauling rule and the Curie temperatures are well above room temperature. All compounds show a metallic like resistivity for low temperatures up to their Curie temperature, above the resistivity changes to semiconducting like behavior. A large negative magnetoresistance of 55% is observed for Co2TiSn at room temperature in an applied magnetic field of 4T which is comparable to the large negative magnetore…

On/off switching of bit readout in bias-enhanced tunnel magneto-Seebeck effect.

2014

Thermoelectric effects in magnetic tunnel junctions are currently an attractive research topic. Here, we demonstrate that the tunnel magneto-Seebeck effect (TMS) in CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB tunnel junctions can be switched on to a logic 1 state and off to 0 by simply changing the magnetic state of the CoFeB electrodes. We enable this new functionality of magnetic tunnel junctions by combining a thermal gradient and an electric field. This new technique unveils the bias-enhanced tunnel magneto-Seebeck effect, which can serve as the basis for logic devices or memories in a green information technology with a pure thermal write and read process. Furthermore, the thermally generated voltages that are re…
