Lay definitions of happiness across nations: The primacy of inner harmony and relational connectedness

In well-being research the term happiness is often used as synonymous with life satisfaction. However, little is known about lay people's understanding of happiness. Building on the available literature, this study explored lay definitions of happiness across nations and cultural dimensions, analyzing their components and relationship with participants' demographic features. Participants were 2799 adults (age range = 30-60, 50% women) living in urban areas of Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Hungary, India, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, and United States. Abstract The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize novel hydrogels with polysaccharide–polyaminoacid structure, able to undergo an enzymatic hydrolysis in the colon and potentially useful for treating inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Starting materials were methacrylated dextran (DEX-MA) and methacrylated α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHM). These polymers were photocrosslinked by exposure of their aqueous solutions at 313 nm without photoinitiators. Different samples, shaped as microparticles, were obtained as a function of polymer concentration and irradiation time. All’arcivescovo Beccadelli è riferito un Breviarium miniato a più mani variamente riconosciute. L’intervento ricostruisce, identificando due stemmi post confezione non appartenenti al committente (1. goffrato sul taglio concavo, 2. c. VIv), altrettanti inediti passaggi di mano del ms. (XV-XVII sec.) An illuminated Breviarium by several hands variously recognized is referred to Archbishop Beccadelli. The work reconstructs, by identifying two post-package coats of arms not belonging to the patron (1. embossed on the concave cut, 2. c. VIv), as many unpublished hand transitions of the ms. (15th-17th cent.)

AbstractThis chapter explores how the entangled relationship between the material and social in teachers’ perceptions of change can be empirically investigated. More specifically, the chapter adopts a DeleuzoGuattarian rhizoanalytic assemblage approach and the notion of becoming to capture the dynamic and fluid nature of social and material affects. The study re-analyses three teacher interviews from data sets originally collected for different research purposes but with the theme of change relevant in each interview.
