Menfi è una città di nuova fondazione nata nella prima metà del Seicento. Sorge nel sito dell’antico casale di Burgiomilluso, sui rilievi collinari fra i fiumi Belice e Carboj a poca distanza dalla costa mediterranea. Fondato dai Musulmani e abbandonato in epoca normanna, l’insediamento ebbe un nuovo impulso con la costruzione di un castello per volontà di Federico II di Svevia; proprio attorno a esso, in epoca moderna, si sviluppò la nuova città per iniziativa dei Tagliavia, principi di Castelvetrano e titolari della baronia di Menfi, elevata a contea nel 1566.

In seguito al drammatico terremoto che nel 1968 devastò 14 comuni della Valle del Belice, fu avviata una complessa macchina della ricostruzione, in cui le scelte non furono dettate da linee programmatiche omogenee ed univoche, determinando in alcuni casi la ricostruzione in situ dei centri distrutti, in altri il trasferimento in aree anche distanti dall’insediamento originario. The technology of “pied de cuve” (PdC) is applied in food process only to produce wines with an enriched community of pro-technological yeasts. PdC promotes the growth of the desirable microbial strains in a small volume of grape must acting as a starter inoculums for higher volumes. Parentage verification of Valle del Belice dairy sheep using multiplex microsatellite panel

Abstract The aim of this work was to develop and evaluate a PCR based microsatellite markers multiplex system for parentage verification of Sicilian Valle del Belice dairy sheep. A total of 85 samples of blood and hair were collected and genotyped for 24 microsatellite markers in multiplex electrophoresis runs. A total of 269 alleles were detected across the 24 loci investigated. The PIC considering all loci was equal to 0.736, showing that this microsatellite panel was very polymorphic and highly informative. We present the results of the analysis of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and InSAR (Interferometric synthetic-aperture radar) data collected in the frame of a project financed by the “Struttura Terremoti” of INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia). Gibellina is a city formed by orogenesis. It was reborn after a dramatic earthquake and shook the sediment off urban theory, becoming a city open to the world and to the worlds of contemporary culture; of architecture, art, theatre. To understand its revolutionary force, we must immerse ourselves in the context of 1968, when an earthquake hit the Belice Valley with a violence capable of damaging fourteen cities and razing four of them—including Gibellina— to the ground.
