Latviešu studentu korporācijas Fraternitas Lettica saime ierodas Rīgas Meža kapos uz profesora Aleksandra Būmaņa kapakmeņa atklāšanu

1991

The Latvian Student fraternity Fraternitas Lettica, accompanied by its guard of honour, arrives at the Riga Forest Cemetery to participate in the unveiling of the tombstone of its member, Alfrēds Būmanis, Latvian lawyer and professor of law at the Faculty of Economics and Law of the University of Latvia. The unveiling of the tombstone coincides with the collapse of the USSR and the restoration of Latvia's independence.

Effect of Hormones on Sucrose Uptake and on ATPase Activity of Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck Leaves

1994

Carbohydrate accumulation in young, fully expanded leaves of Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck is affected by the presence of the fruitlet on the shoot. Previous work gave evidence that gibberellins may be involved in this 'fruit effect'. In the present work we have studied the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) on 14C-sucrose uptake by leaf discs and whether its action could be due to a modulation of the plasma membrane ATPase, which maintains the H+ gradient that drives H+/sucrose co-transport. The effect of GA3 on 14C-sucrose uptake depended on the osmolarity of the assay medium. At 300 mOsm a reduction in the uptake rate was observed. The inhibitory effect of the hormone disappeared after preincu…

Hormone directed sucrose transport during fruit set induced by gibberellins in Pisum sativum

1987

A new system has been developed to study hormone-directed transport in intact plants during parthenocarpic fruit set induced by gibberellins. Gibberellic acid (GA3) and gibberellin A1 (GA1) applied to unpollinated ovaries of pea (Pisum sativum L. cv. Alaska) promoted sucrose transport from the leaf to the site of hormone application. In vivo experiments showed an early (30 min) accumulation of [14C]-sucrose in ovaries of pea stimulated by gibberellins. This activation of sucrose transport appears to be mediated by gibberellins (GA1, GA3), increasing both loading of phloem with sucrose in the leaf (source) and sucrose unloading in the ovary (sink). The ability of pea tissue segments to take …

On the gonality and the slope of a fibered surface

2018

Abstract Let f : X → B be a locally non-trivial relatively minimal fibration of curves of genus g ≥ 2 . We obtain a lower bound of the slope λ ( f ) increasing with the gonality of the general fiber of f. In particular, we show that λ ( f ) ≥ 4 provided that f is non-hyperelliptic and g ≥ 16 .

Automorphisms of $mathbb{A}^{1}$-fibered affine surfaces

2011

We develop technics of birational geometry to study automorphisms of affine surfaces admitting many distinct rational fibrations, with a particular focus on the interactions between automorphisms and these fibrations. In particular, we associate to each surface S of this type a graph encoding equivalence classes of rational fibrations from which it is possible to decide for instance if the automorphism group of S is generated by automorphisms preserving these fibrations.

Tacitus on Titus? Visit to the Temple of Venus at Paphos

The genesis of data-driven decision-making in the world of soccer tactics : deciphering the potential of big data

2021

Master's thesis in Information systems (IS501) Arguably, soccer is a more fluid sport than other popular sports such as baseball, American football, and cricket, which explicitly require more discrete ‘plays.’ Moreover, with twenty-two players always committed, it has more moving elements than basketball or ice hockey. From a mathematical perspective, this signifies that soccer has more degrees of freedom than these other sports, making it difficult to evaluate the game using one or a small number of metrics. Over time, this challenge has been made exceedingly more difficult within the soccer community. The availability of data has increased much more rapidly than the scientific advancement…

Flerkanals multimedia over IP

2001

Ontological representation of texts, and its applicationsin text analysis

2003

Masteroppgave i informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi 2003 - Høgskolen i Agder, Grimstad For the management of a company, the need to know what people think of their products or services is becoming increasingly important in an increasingly competitive market. As the Internet can nearly be described as a digital mirror of events in the ”real“ world, being able to make sense of the semi structured nature of natural language texts published in this ubiquitous medium has received growing interest. The approach proposed in the thesis combines natural language processing and ontologies to represent elements in texts and relations between them. These relations are used to determine what terms …
