The latent nature of prolonged grief - A taxometric analysis: Results from a representative population sample
2017
Individuals suffering from prolonged grief disorder (PGD) show severe grief reactions after the death of a significant other, even beyond a period of grieving that is within a person's cultural and religious context. In addition to this core element, PGD can manifest in various ways. Symptoms may include persistent preoccupation, intense emotional pain, or impairment in important life domains. The symptoms, furthermore, have to be of culturally or religiously inappropriate extent or severity, taking into account different norms of grieving. PGD is discussed as a distinct diagnostic category in the revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Nosology of PGD has been hi…
Dying in Germany--unfulfilled needs of relatives in different care settings.
2012
Abstract Context The integration of family members in the dying process and the recognition of their special needs are important factors for the development of high-quality palliative care. Objectives This study aimed to explore important needs and personal experiences of relatives at the end of life, and to detect differences in these needs and experiences for various care settings. Methods Our cross-sectional survey was based on a random sampling of 5000 inhabitants of Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) who died between May 25 and August 24, 2008. Relatives of these randomly drawn deceased persons were interviewed by a written survey. Results A total of 1378 questionnaires were completed (res…
Hormonal regulation of S-adenosylmethionine synthase transcripts in pea ovaries
1996
Two cDNA clones coding for S-adenosyl-L-methionine synthase (SAMs, EC 2.5.1.6) have been isolated from a cDNA library of gibberellic acid-treated unpollinated pea ovaries. Both cDNAs were sequenced showing a high degree of identity but coding for different SAMs polypeptides. The presence of two SAMs genes in pea was further confirmed by Southern analysis. Expression of the SAMs genes in the pea plant was found at different levels in vegetative and reproductive tissues. We characterized the expression levels of SAMs genes during the development or senescence of pea ovaries. Northern analysis showed that transcription of SAMs genes in parthenocarpic fruits was upregulated by auxins in the sam…
Aspetti e momenti della formazione giovanile di Luigi Pirandello e di Giuseppe Schirò
2020
The newly retrieved correspondence between Pirandello and Schirò helps us reconstruct the relationship between the two young writers, both protagonists of a time rich in events. Of no less importance were their passionate love stories with two young women by the same name: Lina Pirandello. The first Lina was the cousin of the writer whereas the other the sister of the future playwright. The background was that of the Palermo of the liberty style at the end of the 19th century while the cultural context was dominated by the great and renowned Sicilian figures of the time. In the second part of the essay, the author considers the literary activity shared by the two young men. As to the early …
Construction of Fibred Categories
2019
In Section 5, we introduce methods from classical homological algebra (i.e. using mostly the language of derived categories of abelian categories and their Verdier quotients) to construct the main examples of premotivic categories of interest in this book, while, in Section 6, we study how to check that the localization axiom holds in practice. Section 7 is devoted to the process of obtaining new fibred categories from old ones, by considering homotopy theoretic modules over a ring object.
Fibred Categories and the Six Functors Formalism
2019
In Section 1, we introduce the basic language used in this book, the so-called premotivic categories and their functoriality. This is an extension of the classical notion of fibered categories. They appear with different categorical structures. In Section2, the language of premotivic categories is specialized to that of triangulated categories and to algebraic geometry. We introduce several axioms of such categories which ultimately will lead to the full six functors formalism. An emphasis is given on the study of the main axioms, with a special care about the so-called localization axiom. Then in Section 3, the general theory of descent is formulated in the language of premotivic model cat…
Temporal aspects of copper homeostasis and its crosstalk with hormones
2015
To cope with the dual nature of copper as being essential and toxic for cells, plants temporarily adapt the expression of copper homeostasis components to assure its delivery to cuproproteins while avoiding the interference of potential oxidative damage derived from both copper uptake and photosynthetic reactions during light hours. The circadian clock participates in the temporal organization of coordination of plant nutrition adapting metabolic responses to the daily oscillations. This timely control improves plant fitness and reproduction and holds biotechnological potential to drive increased crop yields. Hormonal pathways, including those of abscisic acid, gibberellins, ethylene, auxin…
The Effect of Secretion on Lipids and their Distribution in Barley Aleurone Protoplasts
1988
Barley aleurone protoplasts, when exposed to Ga3 and Ca2+ synthesize and secrete the hydrolytic enzyme α -amylase (Bush et al., 1986). At the same time, protoplasts undergo important structural changes which reflect the elaboration of the membrane system involved in protein synthesis and secretion. The mobilization of lipid reserves may be a preliminar step which would provide energy as well as several components for the synthesis of membrane lipids.
Probing the bond order wave phase transitions of the ionic Hubbard model by superlattice modulation spectroscopy
2017
An exotic phase, the bond order wave, characterized by the spontaneous dimerization of the hopping, has been predicted to exist sandwiched between the band and Mott insulators in systems described by the ionic Hubbard model. Despite growing theoretical evidences, this phase still evades experimental detection. Given the recent realization of the ionic Hubbard model in ultracold atomic gases, we propose here to detect the bond order wave using superlattice modulation spectroscopy. We demonstrate, with the help of time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group and bosonization, that this spectroscopic approach reveals characteristics of both the Ising and Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions …
