Digital signal processing (DSP) of time series using SVM has been addressed in the literature with a straightforward application of the SVM kernel regression, but the assumption of independently distributed samples in regression models is not fulfilled by a time-series problem. This communication introduces a very simple generalization of the familiar spectral angle mapper (SAM) distance. SAM is perhaps the most widely used distance in chemometrics, hyperspectral imaging, and remote sensing applications. We show that a nonlinear version of SAM can be readily obtained by measuring the angle between pairs of vectors in a reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. The kernel SAM generalizes the angle measure to higher-order statistics, it is a valid reproducing kernel, it is universal, and it has consistent geometrical properties that permit deriving a metric easily. This work proposes an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method to assess the strength of the interactions between heart period (HP) and systolic arterial pressure (SAP) variability. EMD was exploited to decompose the original series (OR) into its first, and fastest, intrinsic mode function (IMF1) and the residual (RES) computed by subtracting the IMF1 from OR. EMD procedure was applied to both HP and SAP variability series. Nella relazione che Roberto Pane scrive per gli Atti del IV Congresso Nazionale di Storia dell’Architettura del 1950, con il termine «pseudo restauri», lo studioso si riferisce a quegli interventi gestiti dalle Curie che si improvvisano con propri uffici tecnici, promuovendo restauri in perenne contrasto con i pareri delle Soprintendenze. È in questo passaggio appassionato, della sua militante relazione al congresso, che Pane cita chiaramente il caso da lui conosciuto del Duomo di Cefalù con il suo chiostro.
