Mechanical properties of carbon nanotube reinforced nanocomposites

One way to take advantage of the marvelous properties of the carbon nanotubes consists in incorporating them into a matrix to build composite materials. The best candidates for this task are undoubtedly polymers thanks to their strength, toughness, low weight, and easy processing. A mixed model, numerical-analytical, is presented that allows one to predict the elastic properties of carbon nanotube (CNT)/polymer composites containing a random distribution of CNTs, while taking account of the curvature that they show when immersed in the polymer. It is well known quadratic Bézier curves define conics. The use of massic points permits to define a semi-conic in the Euclidean plane. Moreover, from a given quadratic Bézier curve, we can determine the properties of the underlying conic. Moreover, the choice of an adequat non-degenerate indefinite quadratic form permits to see the non-degenerate central conic as an unitary circle.

The etiology of overweight and obesity is a mixture of genetic determinants, environmental factors, and health behaviors. Especially intra- and interpersonal inactive behaviors, here termed convenience, seems to play an important role. The objective was to develop and validate the Convenience Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) to assess convenience-related items and their association with overweight and obesity in a large population. A sample of 1233 subjects aged 18–82 years from six population groups took part in a self-administered questionnaire. In medieval Sicily abbesses had a strong spiritual and temporal power and many of them belonged to noble families. They ran the convents, guided and protected the nuns, and commissioned works of art. In the pictures abbesses were portrayed with nuns, but double in size to underline their leadership. Convents were troubled by disputes and clashes between dissident nuns and abbesses. Moreover, abbesses could not avoid dynastic logics and family power games that affected their life and limited their action.

The presentation of this copper alloy belt buckle decorated with a cross flanked by two griffons from Fleurey-sur- Ouche (Côte-d'Or), gives us the opportunity to review our knowledge of this type of buckle, the corpus of which has been recently enriched by new examples. Even though the fifteen known pieces can be categorized in the group D defined by the characteristic finds of the Burgundian kingdom, the iconographical theme remains quite diverse. Also, discoveries have been made all over this vast area, underlining the existence of several workshops, not only in the Jura put also in the Lauragais area.
