Discriminating octahedral transition metal ions: highly selective tripodal tris-(2,2′-bipyridine) functionalized piperazine cyclophane receptor for C…

2011

New tripodal transition metal ion receptors, tris(5-ethoxycarbonyl-2,2'-bipyridine) and tris(5-carboxylate-2,2'-bipyridine) substituted 27-membered trimeric piperazine cyclophanes 5 and 7 as well as tetra(5-ethoxycarbonyl-2,2'-bipyridine) substituted 36-membered tetrameric piperazine cyclophane 6, have been prepared and their transition metal ion complexing properties studied in solution by UV-vis spectroscopy and in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of [H(3)5(3+)·Fe(2+)]·4(ClO(4)(-))·CF(3)COO(-) (V), [H(3)7(2+)·Fe(2+)]·2(SO(4)(2-)) (VII) and the reference complex [tris(5,5'-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)-2,2'-bipyridine)Fe(II) perchlorate] (I) showed that the…

A Note on added information in the RAS Procedure: reexamination of some evidence

2006

International audience; An example in Miernyk (1977) presented a rather counterintuitive result, namely that introducing accurate exogenous information into an RAS matrix estimating procedure could lead to an estimate that was worse than one generated by RAS using no exogenous information at all. This became an oft-cited black mark against RAS. Miller and Blair (1985) included a different (and small) illustration of the same possibility. It was recently pointed out by one of us that the Miller/Blair numerical results are wrong. For that reason, we decided to reexamine all the empirical evidence we could find on the subject. While figures in both Miernyk and Miller/Blair appear to be wrong, …

CBCT in the diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the jaws

2013

Short Summary: ONJ is associated with bisphosphonates, and recently with antiangiogenic drugs. Another cause is radiotherapy. Few papers have previously investigated the value of CBCT in the diagnosis of ONJ. Purpose/Objectives: To describe the CBCT findings in the diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ) according to a new staging system of ONJ. Methods and Materials: 9 patients (5 women, 4 men, 54-76 yrs.) affected by ONJ were studied with a CBCT device (90 kV, 12.5 mA, 0.25 mm voxel size) in 2012-2013. 7/9 patients were treated with bisphosphonates (5 for bone metastasis, 2 for osteoporosis), 1/9 patient was treated with an antiangiogenic drug, 1/9 patient received radiotherapy. The effect of montmorillonite clay in alginate gel beads for polychlorinated biphenyl adsorption: Isothermal and kinetic studies

2014

Beads of alginate montmorillonite have been used as sorbent for polychlorinated biphenyls from aqueous solutions. The structure and the differences between the different beads were established by IR spectroscopy (FT-IR). The adsorption at 25 °C has been studied in a batch system, following its kinetics and assessing adsorbent dose, initial PCB concentrations, and pH effects. The results show that increasing the initial concentration of the PCBs and the adsorption time favored the adsorption. Adsorption isotherm data were modeled using Chapman, Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms and the appropriate parameters were calculated.Adsorption of trichlorobiphenyls on alginate–montmorilloni…

Capping N‐Donor Ligands Modulate the Magnetic Dynamics of Dy III β‐Diketonate Single‐Ion Magnets with D 4 d Symmetry

2019

A family of four mononuclear DyIII β-diketonate complexes with formulas [Dy(tmhd)3 (Br2 -bpy) (1), [Dy(tmhd)3 (Br-bpy)] (2), [Dy(tmhd)3 (dppz)] (3), and [Dy(tmhd)3 (mcdpq)] (4) (tmhd=2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione, Br2 -bpy=5,5'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridine, Br-bpy=5-bromo-2,2'-bipyridine, dppz=dipyrido [3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine, mcdpq=2-methoxyl-3-cyanodipyrido[3,2-f:2,3'-h]quinoxaline) were prepared by modifying the capping N-donor coligands. DyIII centers in these complexes feature an N2 O6 octacoordinate environment with distorted square-antiprismatic D4d symmetry. Magnetic investigations evidenced single-ion magnet behavior in all complexes with energy barriers Ueff of 42.10 (1), 61.47…

Thermal expansion and magnetic properties of benzoquinone-bridged dinuclear rare-earth complexes.

2017

The synthesis and structural characterization of two benzoquinone-bridged dinuclear rare-earth complexes [BQ(MCl2·THF3)2] (BQ = 2,5-bisoxide-1,4-benzoquinone; M = Y (1), Dy (2)) are described. Of these reported metal complexes, the dysprosium analogue 2 is the first discrete bridged dinuclear lanthanide complex in which both metal centres reside in pentagonal bipyramidal environments. Interestingly, both complexes undergo significant thermal expansion upon heating from 120 K to 293 K as illustrated by single-crystal X-ray and powder diffraction experiments. AC magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that 2 does not show the slow relation of magnetization in zero dc field. The absent of …

Structural investigations on diorganotin and triorganotin(IV) phosphomycin derivatives.

2008

Abstract Four new diorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Bu), and triorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Ph), derivatives of the phosphomycin disodium salt antibiotic[(1R,2S)-1,2-epoxypropylphosphonate]Na2 have been synthesized and their solid state configuration studied by X-ray crystallography, FT-IR, Mossbauer, UV–Vis spectroscopies. The X-ray diffraction investigation, performed on the bis[trimethyltin(IV)]phosphomycin, showed that the coordination geometry at all the Sn atoms is trigonal bipyramidal. The structure of the complex forms an unusual polymeric zig-zag planar network. The FT-IR and the 119Sn Mossbauer studies supported the formation of trigonal bipyramidal (Tbp) molecular structures, both in the dio…

P26-S Left and right motor cortical excitability and relationship to motor functions in healthy adolescents

2019

Background The interhemispheric difference in cortical excitability and its relationship to motor functions is unclear. Aim We examined the relationship between handedness, left and right motor cortex excitability and fine and gross motor functions in adolescence. Methods 28 healthy adolescents (age 16–19 years, 19 girls) were studied. Handedness was determined by the Waterloo Handedness Questionnaire. Motor threshold (MT) of the abductor pollicis brevis was measured on both hemispheres using biphasic stimulation, and on the left hemisphere also with monophasic stimulation. Box and block test (BBT) was used for manual dexterity, line run and standing long jump for gross motor tasks. Spearma…

Bone metastases in soft tissue sarcoma: a survey of natural history, prognostic value and treatment options

2013

Abstract Background We surveyed the natural history of bone metastases in patients affected by soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Methods This multicenter retrospective observational study included 135 patients. Histological subtype, characteristics of bone metastases, treatment, skeletal related events (SREs) and disease outcome were recorded. Results The most represented histological subtypes were leiomyosarcoma (27%) angiosarcoma (13%) and undifferentiated sarcoma (8%). Axial skeleton was the most common site for bone involvement (70%). In 27% of cases, bone metastases were present at the time of diagnosis. Fifty-four (40%) patients developed SREs and the median time to first SRE was 4 months (r…
