A tabu thresholding algorithm for arc crossing minimization in bipartite graphs

1996

Acyclic directed graphs are commonly used to model complex systems. The most important criterion to obtain a readable map of an acyclic graph is that of minimizing the number of arc crossings. In this paper, we present a heuristic for solving the problem of minimizing the number of arc crossings in a bipartite graph. It consists of a novel and easier implementation of fundamental tabu search ideas without explicit use of memory structures (a tabu thresholding approach). Computational results are reported on a set of 250 randomly generated test problems. Our algorithm has been compared with the two best heuristics published in the literature and with the optimal solutions for the test proble…

An Aggressive Search Procedure for the Bipartite Drawing Problem

1996

Graphs are used to represent reality in several areas of knowledge. This has generated considerable interest in graph drawing algorithms. Arc crossing minimization is a fundamental aesthetic criterion to obtain a readable map of a graph. The problem of minimizing the number of arc crossings in a bipartite graph (BDP) is NP-complete. In this paper we present an aggressive search scheme for the BDP based on the Intensification, Diversification and Strategic Oscillation elements of Tabu Search. Several algorithms can be obtained with this scheme by implementing different evaluators in the move definitions. In this paper we propose two variants. Computational results are reported on a set of 30…

Incremental bipartite drawing problem

2001

Abstract Layout strategies that strive to preserve perspective from earlier drawings are called incremental. In this paper we study the incremental arc crossing minimization problem for bipartite graphs. We develop a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) for this problem. We have also developed a branch-and-bound algorithm in order to compute the relative gap to the optimal solution of the GRASP approach. Computational experiments are performed with 450 graph instances to first study the effect of changes in grasp search parameters and then to test the efficiency of the proposed procedure. Scope and purpose Many information systems require graphs to be drawn so that these syst…

Attentional biases toward emotional images in the different episodes of bipolar disorder: an eye-tracking study.

2014

Attentional biases toward emotional information may represent vulnerability and maintenance factors in bipolar disorder (BD). The present experimental study examined the processing of emotional information in BD patients using the eye-tracking technology. Bipolar patients in their different states (euthymia, mania, depression) simultaneously viewed four pictures with different emotional valence (happy, neutral, sad, threatening) for 20 s while their eye movements were monitored. A group of healthy individuals served as the control. The data revealed the following: (i) a decrease in attention to happy images in BD patients in their depressive episodes compared to healthy individuals, and (ii…

Assessing persistent organic pollutants (POPS) in the sicily island atmosphere, mediterranean, using PUF disk passive air samplers

2016

In this study, PUF disk passive air samplers were deployed at eight sites, during two sampling periods, on the Island of Sicily in the Mediterranean basin. Samples were screened for a number of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) (n = 28 congeners), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) (n = 16 compounds), and polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDEs n = 28) using GC-MS. PCB concentrations in air ranged ~10-300 pg m-3. The PCB pattern was dominated by lower to middle molecular weight PCBs (Cl3-5) and PCB-28 and PCB-52 were the most abundant congeners. α- and γ-Hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) concentrations in air were relatively high ~420 ± 320 (50-1000) an…

Cognitive impairment and consumption of mental healthcare resources in outpatients with bipolar disorder.

2020

Cognitive dysfunction is a major predictor of functional outcomes, and loss of occupational functioning is usually linked with a higher cost of illness. However, the association between cognitive impairment and consumption of health resources has not been studied in bipolar disorder to date. This study aims to examine this relationship. This is an observational, retrospective study of a representative sample of euthymic outpatients between 18 and 55 years, fulfilling DSM 5 criteria for bipolar disorder and recruited at a catchment area in Spain. Cognitive performance was screened with the Spanish version of the Screen for Cognitive Impairment in Psychiatry (SCIP-S), and several variables of…

Studies on the antioxidant activity of the essential oil and extract of Tunisian Tetraclinis articulata (Vahl) Mast. (Cupressaceae).

2013

This study analyses the chemical composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of both the essential oil and the 80% aqueous acetone extract of Tetraclinis articulata leaves. The GC-MS analysis of the essential oil identified 66 components that comprise 93.5% of the oil. The major constituents of the oil are: bornyl acetate (31.4%), α-pinène (24.5%) and camphor (20.3%). Antioxidant activities of the samples were determined using four different test systems, namely DPPH, β-carotene/linoleic acid, reducing power and metal chelating activity assay. Test results from the DPPH system showed the strongest radical scavenging activity was exhibited by the 80% aqueous acetone extract (IC(50) = 5.5 µ…

Bipyridine based metallogels: an unprecedented difference in photochemical and chemical reduction in the in situ nanoparticle formation

2017

Metal co-ordination induced supramolecular gelation of low molecular weight organic ligands is a rapidly expanding area of research due to the potential in creating hierarchically self-assembled multi-stimuli responsive materials. In this context, structurally simple O-methylpyridine derivatives of 4,4′-dihydroxy-2,2′-bipyridine ligands are reported. Upon complexation with Ag(I) ions in aqueous dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solutions the ligands spontaneously form metallosupramolecular gels at concentrations as low as 0.6 w/v%. The metal ions induce the self-assembly of three dimensional (3D) fibrillar networks followed by the spontaneous in situ reduction of the Ag-centers to silver nanopartic…

Cobalt(IV) corroles as catalysts for the electroreduction of O2: reactions of heterobimetallic dyads containing a face-to-face linked Fe(III) or Mn(I…

2006

Abstract A series of heterobinuclear cofacial porphyrin–corrole dyads containing a Co(IV) corrole linked by one of four different spacers in a face-to-face arrangement with an Fe(III) or Mn(III) porphyrin have been examined as catalysts for the electroreduction of O 2 to H 2 O and/or H 2 O 2 when adsorbed on the surface of a graphite electrode in air-saturated aqueous solutions containing 1 M HClO 4 . The examined compounds are represented as (PCY)M III ClCo IV Cl where P is a porphyrin dianion, C is a corrole trianion and Y is a biphenylene (B), 9,9-dimethylxanthene (X), dibenzofuran (O) or anthracene (A) spacer. The catalytic behavior of the seven investigated dyads in the two heterobimet…

Synthesis, characterization, crystal structures and in vitro antistaphylococcal activity of organotin(IV) derivatives with 5,7-disubstituted-1,2,4-tr…

2011

Abstract New organotin(IV) complexes of 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( dbtp ) and 5,7-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( dptp ) with 1:1 and/or 1:2 stoichiometry were synthesized and investigated by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and 119 Sn Mossbauer in the solid state and by 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy, in solution. Moreover, the crystal and molecular structures of Et 2 SnCl 2 (dbtp) 2 and Ph 2 SnCl 2 (EtOH) 2 (dptp) 2 are reported. The complexes contain hexacoordinated tin atoms: in Et 2 SnCl 2 (dbtp) 2 two 5,7-ditertbutyl-1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine molecules coordinate classically the tin atom through N(3) atom and the coordination around the tin atom shows a …
