Behavioural sensitization to repeated sleep deprivation in a mice model of mania.

2008

Sensitization to the effect of stress has been hypothesized as a mechanism to explain episode recurrence and cycle acceleration in bipolar disorder. Naturalistic observations and experimental work in human patients suggested that sleep deprivation can trigger manic episodes of illness. In rats sleep deprivation (SD) with the platform method caused mania-like behaviours thus providing an animal model of mania with face, construct, and predictive validity. In the present study we administered SD or control stress to male CD1 mice following a dose-response protocol based on time of exposure to the experimental conditions (6, 12 or 24 h) and repetition of treatment (three times). SD, but not st…

Biomarkers to predict the onset of biphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: A systematic review

2019

Background: The goal of this paper was to identify available biomarkers to predict the onset of biphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). Material and Methods: Case-control studies comparing the different concentrations of a series of molecules detected in serum and urine as matrices of BRONJ affected patients vs. non-affected were included. PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews were used for the present paper. Two reviewers independently screened electronic databases (Medline, Web of science, and The Cochrane Library) and performed hand searches. Risk of bias assessment of selected studies was performed by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. This study is registered as PROSPERO CR…

Metal Telluride Clusters Composed of Niobocene Carbonyl, Telluride, and Cobalt Carbonyl Units: Syntheses, Structures, and Reactivity

2000

Abstract: The reaction of [Cp#2NbTe2H] (1#; Cp# = Cp* (C5Me5) or Cp(x) (C5Me4Et)) with two equivalents of [Co2(CO)8] gives a series of cobalt carbonyl telluride clusters that contain different types of niobocene carbonyl fragments. At 0 degrees C, [Cp#2NbTe2CO3(CO)7] (2#) and [Co4Te2(CO)10] (3) are formed which disappear at higher temperatures: in boiling toluene a mixture of [cat2][Co9Te6(CO)8] (5#) (cat= [Cp#2Nb(CO)2]+) and [cat2][Co11Te7(CO)10] (6#) is formed along with [cat][Co(CO)4] (4#). Complexes 6# transform into [cat][Co11Te7(CO)10] (7#) upon interaction with HPF6 or wet SiO2. The molecular structures of 2(Cp(x)), 4(Cp(x)), 5(Cp*), 6(Cp*) and 7(Cp*) have been determined by X-ray cr…

Orthogonal Ambipolar Semiconductor Nanostructures for Complementary Logic Gates.

2016

We report orthogonal ambipolar semiconductors that exhibit hole and electron transport in perpendicular directions based on aligned films of nanocrystalline "shish-kebabs" containing poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and N,N'-di-n-octyl-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) as p- and n-type components, respectively. Polarized optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction measurements reveal a high degree of in-plane alignment. Relying on the orientation of interdigitated electrodes to enable efficient charge transport from either the respective p- or n-channel materials, we demonstrate semiconductor films with high anisotropy in the sign of charge carriers. Fi…

Class II subdivision: Cone beam computed tomography- CBCT Analysis

2021

Background To estimate whether there is skeletal and/or dental asymmetry in class II subdivision patients, between the Class II side and the Class I side using of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material and methods A sample of 30 patients, from a private clinic, retrospectively selected; with a class II subdivision diagnosis requiring treatment, who underwent wide-field CBCT that met the inclusion criteria. The data was processed with Dolphin 3D version 11.95 Premium software. The craniometric points, as well as the spatial orientation scheme of the three-dimensional model were proposed by Craig Minich, et al. (1). Results The Class II subdivision side and the Class I side of each pa…

Bipolar disorder comorbid with alcohol use disorder: focus on neurocognitive correlates

2015

Bipolar disorder (BD) and alcohol use disorders (AUDs) are usually comorbid, and both have been associated with significant neurocognitive impairment. Patients with the BD-AUD comorbidity (dual diagnosis) may have more severe neurocognitive deficits than those with a single diagnosis, but there is paucity of research in this area. To explore this hypothesis more thoroughly, we carried out a systematic literature review through January 2015. Eight studies have examined the effect of AUDs on the neurocognitive functioning of BD patients. Most studies found that BD patients with current or past history of comorbid AUDs show more severe impairments, especially in verbal memory and executive cog…

PPAR-γ Agonist GW1929 But Not Antagonist GW9662 Reduces TBBPA-Induced Neurotoxicity in Primary Neocortical Cells

2013

Tetrabromobisphenol A (2,2-bis(4-hydroxy-3,5-dibromophenyl)propane; TBBPA) is a widely used brominated flame retardant. TBBPA induces neuronal damage, but the mechanism by which this occurs is largely unknown. We studied the possible involvement of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) in TBBPA-induced apoptosis and toxicity in mouse primary neuronal cell cultures. TBBPA enhanced both, caspase-3 activity and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release in neocortical cells after 6 and 24 h of exposition. These data were supported at the cellular level with Hoechst 33342 staining. Immunoblot analyses showed that, compared with control cells, 10 μM TBBPA decreased the expression of…
