Dry stone buildings in Sicily. An environmental and territorial resource

2013

Dry stone constructions are widespread throughout many regions across the world, in a wide variety of forms, according to the environmental and socio-economic contexts, and constitute a valuable know-how which is today in danger of disappearing. In Sicily dry stone works have traditionally been used in the area of Val di Noto where they constitute a key character of the landscape, and in the Madonie Mounts in which some policies of enhancement have been recently initiated. In the framework of the Grundtvig programme “La préservation du patrimoine architectural bâti en pierre sèche”, an in-depth analysis of these architectures have been pursued, aiming to create a database inventory. This pa…

Student participation in peer interaction : use of material resources as a key consideration in an open-ended problem-solving mathematics task

2021

This study explores how students deal with material resources in their peer interaction when working in pairs in an open-ended problem-solving task. The productive use of material resources can be expected to support successful peer work. However, research into social phenomena in peer interaction is needed in order to identify and describe productive and less productive forms of dealing with material resources as students participate in open-ended problem-solving tasks. Consequently, this explorative study responds to this research need. Based on multimodal data, including video recordings, transcribed talk and the written contributions from four pairs of Year 7 students aged 12-13 years, …

Le vignoble gallo-romain de Gevrey-Chambertin "Au-dessus de Bergis", Côte d'Or (Ier-IIe s. ap. J.-C.)

2011

Recent excavations at " Au-dessus de Bergis " in Gevrey-Chambertin (Burgundy, France) brought to light in 2008 and 2009 numerous, rectangular aligned pits interpreted as an ancient vineyard dated from the mid-first, mid-second century to the third century AD. The vineyard measured at least one hectare in area and was bounded to the south by a hedge or fence. It was composed of parallel rows oriented 6° N that may have been trained over and along high, inclined wooden frames. Vine stocks were renewed by layering, over several generations of plants. This vineyard attests to the spreading of vineyards from the mid-first century AD, as was initially supposed, and it documents some agricultural …
