Publisher Correction: Anticipatory postural adjustments during joint action coordination
2019
There is a current claim that humans are able to effortlessly detect others' hidden mental state by simply observing their movements and transforming the visual input into motor knowledge to predict behaviour. Using a classical paradigm quantifying motor predictions, we tested the role of vision feedback during a reach and load-lifting task performed either alone or with the help of a partner. Wrist flexor and extensor muscle activities were recorded on the supporting hand. Early muscle changes preventing limb instabilities when participants performed the task by themselves revealed the contribution of the visual input in postural anticipation. When the partner performed the unloading, a co…
Soluble CD14 monocyte antigen in suction blister fluid and serum of patients with psoriasis.
1993
The purpose of this study was to measure soluble CD14 (sCD14) molecules in the skin and in serum of patients with psoriasis. CD14 is a newly discovered cell surface marker on monocytes that is shed after cell activation. The following procedures were used: suction blisters were raised over the abdominal skin of 9 healthy control individuals and 8 patients with psoriasis. Serum of 17 healthy controls and 17 patients with psoriasis was collected. sCD14 was determined in suction blister fluid and serum by the ELISA technique. The clinical status of psoriasis was rated by the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI score). We found that sCD14 levels in suction blisters of healthy skin (1,050 +/…
Angina bullosa haemorrhagica:a 14-year multi-institutional retrospective study from Brazil and literature review
2021
Background Angina bullosa haemorrhagica (ABH) is characterized by the recurrent appearance of blood blisters on the oral mucosa, mainly in adults' soft palate. In general, the blisters rupture spontaneously, lacking the necessity for biopsy. We report the clinical features of 23 ABH cases, emphasizing the clinical behavior and the management of these conditions. Material and Methods A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. A total of 12,727 clinical records of oral and maxillofacial lesions from four dental services in Brazil were analyzed. Clinical data were collected from the clinical records and evaluated. Results The series comprised 12 males (52.2%) and 11 femal…

When Competition Is Pushed Too Hard. An Agent-Based Model Of Strategic Behaviour Of Referees In Peer Review
2013
This paper examines the impact of strategic behaviour of referees on the quality and efficiency of peer review. We modelled peer review as a process based on knowledge asymmetry and subject to evaluation bias. We built two simulation scenarios to investigate largescale implications of referee behaviour and judgment bias. The first one was inspired by “the luck of the reviewer draw” idea. In this case, we assumed that referees randomly fell into Type I and Type II errors, i.e., recommending submissions of low quality to be published or recommending against the publishing of submissions which should have been published. In the second scenario, we assumed that certain referees tried intentiona…
Résidents et personnel en établissement d'hébergement pour personnes agées dépendantes (EHPAD) : création ou recréation de liens spécifiques en milie…
2019
This thesis studies the specific relationship that develops between the staff, the residents and their family and friends in retirement homes for dependents elderly in a rural environment. The aim is to analyse the creation process by the actors to go from an acquaintanceship network to an interdependence network and how each adapts, reorganise, more or less, among facilities where the legislator codified strongly the relational framework. The arrival to a retirement home marks, in all cases, a strong biographical break. For a little of people, it means having to accept abandoning a significant part of their past life. It forces the residents to (re)build themselves a new identity, a new stat…
Reply to “Caution in underrepresentation of older adults in clinical trials on COVID-19 vaccines”
2021
We would like to thank Chen et al. for their comments on our recently published paper in Ageing Research Reviews (Veronese et al., 2021). In this reply we would like to answer to the points raised in their letter. Regarding the first question, we decided to run our search only in PubMed/Medline and ClinicalTrials.gov since the phase II-III randomized controlled trials of SARS-CoV 2 vaccines, considering the urgency for interventions to ameliorate the pandemic situation, received a great deal of interest. Therefore, they were usually published in high impact factor journals, reported in PubMed, and their protocols were usually reported in clinicaltrials.gov. However, following the suggestion…
Novadpētniecības krājuma digitalizācija Latvijas bibliotēkās
2020
Studi greci e latini nell?antica Università di Altamura (1748-1821)
2019
The article tries to highlight, despite the scarse of available documentation, the Greek and Latin studies (language and texts) in the ancient Apulian University in Altamura (1748-1821). Furthermore, on the basis of unpublished archival materials (school registers and student workbooks) it is possible to shed light on the ancient authors explained at school, the teaching methods, and the study practices.
