Revisiting the photochemical synthesis of [FeFe]-hydrogenase mimics: reaction optimization, mechanistic study and electrochemical behaviour
2020
The photoreaction of [(μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6] and alkenes or alkynes has been optimized to readily obtain functionalized [FeFe]-hydrogenase mimics. Irradiation under low CO pressure in THF produces the corresponding photo-adducts in good/acceptable (alkenes/alkynes) yields, with retention of the starting olefin stereochemistry. DFT-calculations provide plausible reaction pathways in both, singlet and triplet states. The DFT-calculation based in the singlet state is energetically more favorable. The electrochemical behavior of the synthesized compounds is also presented, including studies in acidic media. The electrochemical properties of the products vary in the presence of a double bond (cycloaddi…
Multiplicity of Reaction Pathways in the Processes of Oxygen Transfer to Secondary Amines by Mo(VI) and W(VI) Peroxo Complexes.
1996
Oxidation of N,N-benzylmethylamine, N,N-benzylisopropylamine, and N,N-benzyl-tert-butylamine by both anionic and neutral Mo(VI) and W(VI) oxodiperoxo complexes yields the corresponding nitrones quantitatively. The oxidation reactions employing anionic oxidants were performed in CHCl(3) and follow second-order kinetics, first order with respect to the amine and to the oxidant. The data were rationalized on the basis of a rate-determining nucleophilic attack of the amine onto the peroxide oxygen of the oxidant, with a transition state in which N-O bond formation and O-O bond cleavage occur in a concerted way (electrophilic oxygen transfer mechanism). This attack yields the corresponding hydro…
Universal Transients in Polymer and Ionic Transition Metal Complex Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells
2012
Two types of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are commonly distinguished, the polymer-based LEC (p-LEC) and the ionic transition metal complex-based LEC (iTMC-LEC). Apart from marked differences in the active layer constituents, these LEC types typically show operational time scales that can differ by many orders of magnitude at room temperature. Here, we demonstrate that despite these differences p-LECs and iTMC-LECs show current, light output, and efficacy transients that follow a universal shape. Moreover, we conclude that the turn-on time of both LEC types is dominated by the ion conductivity because the turn-on time exhibits the same activation energy as the ion conductivity…
A bonding evolution theory study of the mechanism of [3+2] cycloaddition reactions of nitrones with electron-deficient ethylenes
2015
The mechanism of zw-type [3+2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of nitrones with electron-deficient (ED) ethylenes has been studied using density functional theory (DFT) methods at the MPWB1K/6-31G(d) level of theory. An exploration of the potential energy surfaces associated with the four competitive reactive channels of the 32CA reaction between C-phenyl-N-methyl nitrone and acrolein indicates that the cycloaddition reaction takes place through a one-step mechanism. This cycloaddition reaction presents a moderate meta regioselectivity and a complete endo stereoselectivity, which is diminished in dichloromethane. Analysis of the DFT reactivity indices of the reagents allows an explanation of…
Phase transitions and distortion of [BiCl6]3- octahedra in (C3H5NH3)3[BiCl 6] - DSC and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies
2004
The DSC diagram of tris(allylammonium) hexachlorobismuthate(III), (C3H5NH3)3[BiCl6], revealed three anomalies at 152, 191 and 299 K. The structure of the salt was determined at 200 and 315 K, below and above the high-temperature phase transition at 299 K. In both phases the crystals are monoclinic. At 200 K the space group is C2/c whereas at 315 K it is C2/m. The structures, at both temperatures, are composed of [BiCl6]3− octahedra and allylammonium cations. The organic and inorganic moieties are attracted to each other by a network of the N-H. . .Cl hydrogen bonds. The relationship between corresponding parameters of the unit cells has been found. The phase transition at 299 K, of the orde…
Rheological Consequences of Hydrogen Bonding: Linear Viscoelastic Response of Linear Polyglycerol and Its Permethylated Analogues as a General Model …
2014
Viscoelastic properties of linear, hydroxyl-functional polymers are only little understood with respect to the effect of functional group interactions. Melt rheology and thermal phase transitions of linear polyethers (polyglycerol, linPG-OH) and their methylated analogues (linPG-OMe) in a broad molecular weight range (Mn = 1–100 kg/mol) with low polydispersities (PDI) have been investigated as a general model for hydroxyl-functional polymers with respect to their functionality and hydrogen bond interactions. We provide detailed insight into the rheodynamics of nonentangled and well-entangled polyethers bearing one functional group per monomer unit. Booij–Palmen plots (BBP) revealed failure …
Reactions of Piperazin-2-one, Morpholin-3-one, and Thiomorpholin-3-one with Triethyl Phosphite Prompted by Phosphoryl Chloride: Scope and Limitations
2019
The reaction of the title lactams with triethyl phosphite prompted by phosphoryl chloride provided six-membered ring heterocyclic phosphonates or bisphosphonates. These novel scaffolds might be of interest as building blocks in medicinal chemistry. The course of the reaction was dependent on the structure of the used substrate. Thus, morpholin-3-one and thiomorpholin-3-one readily provided the corresponding 1,1-bisphosphonates (compounds 1, 2, 7, 14 and 16), whereas the protection of their nitrogen atom resulted in the formation of dehydrophosphonates (compounds 5, 6, and 8). Piperazin-2-one reacted differently yielding mixture of cis- and trans- piperazine-2,3-diyl-bisphosphonates (compoun…
Photosensitive functionalized surface-modified quantum dots for polymeric structures via two-photon-initiated polymerization technique.
2015
In this paper, the surface modification of CdSe- and CdZnS-based quantum dots (QDs) with a functional silica shell is reported. Functionalized silica shells are prepared by two routes: either by ligand exchange and a modified Stober process or by a miniemulsion process with amphiphilic poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenylether also know as Igepal CO-520 (IG) as oligomeric amphiphile and modified silica precursors. The polymerizable groups on the functionalized silica shell allow covalent bonding to a polymer matrix and prevent demixing during polymerization and crosslinking. This allows the homogeneous incorporation of QDs in a crosslinked polymer matrix. This paper furthermore demonstrates that t…
Long Range Bond-Bond Correlations in Dense Polymer Solutions
2004
The scaling of the bond-bond correlation function $C(s)$ along linear polymer chains is investigated with respect to the curvilinear distance, $s$, along the flexible chain and the monomer density, $\rho$, via Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations. % Surprisingly, the correlations in dense three dimensional solutions are found to decay with a power law $C(s) \sim s^{-\omega}$ with $\omega=3/2$ and the exponential behavior commonly assumed is clearly ruled out for long chains. % In semidilute solutions, the density dependent scaling of $C(s) \approx g^{-\omega_0} (s/g)^{-\omega}$ with $\omega_0=2-2\nu=0.824$ ($\nu=0.588$ being Flory's exponent) is set by the number of monomers $g(\r…
Ion size effects on the current efficiency of narrow charged pores
2001
Abstract The effects of ion size on the current efficiency (CE) of charged membranes with narrow pores are studied theoretically. The CE is a measure of the membrane permselectivity defined as the ratio between the counterion flux and the sum of the counterion and coion fluxes when an electric potential difference is applied between the two solutions bathing the membrane. It is studied here as a function of two relevant experimental parameters: the ratio between the ionic radius and the pore radius, and the ratio between the external salt concentration and the membrane fixed charge concentration. The ratio of the CE values corresponding to the point and finite size ions is also calculated a…
