Dear Editor, It is the authors’ belief that the internationally accepted definition of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) (Ruggiero et al, 2009) has several limitations that prevent clinicians from being confident with the diagnosis of the disease. Following recognition of the non-exposed BRONJ clinical variant (Lazarovici et al, 2009), we all became aware that the presence of ‘exposed necrotic bone in the oral cavity’, as outlined in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS) case definition, is just one of the possible clinical manifestations of BRONJ and is not found in all BRONJ patients. PURPOSE: Of the study was to evaluate radiological alterations of the femoral bone after implantation of two different prostheses. METHODS: 81 patients with 87 hips underwent total hip arthroplasty by using the Zweymuller-stem fixating in the medullary canal, and 175 patients with 182 ABG-stems with a proximally fixating, anatomical design were followed up clinically and radiologically. Nephrotoxicity of ibandronate and zoledronate in Wistar rats with normal renal function and after unilateral nephrectomy.

A previous animal study compared the nephrotoxic effect of ibandronate (IBN) and zoledronate (ZOL), but interpretation of these study results was limited because of the model of minimal nephrotoxic dosage with a dosage ratio of 1:3. The present study investigated the nephrotoxicity of ibandronate and zoledronate in a 1.5:1 dose ratio, as used in clinical practice and compared the nephrotoxicity in rats with normal and with mildly to moderately impaired renal function. Use of Zoledronic Acid in a Neonate with Subcutaneous Fat Necrosis Complicated with Severe, Refractory Hypercalcemia.

Objective Subcutaneous fat necrosis (SCFN) is a rare condition that may occur in the neonatal period. SCFN is an inflammatory disorder of the adipose tissue, usually found in full-term healthy infants who have a history of intrauterine or perinatal distress. It is usually a self-limited condition; however, in some cases, it can get complicated, leading to severe hypercalcemia that may be life-threatening. Study Design We report and describe a classic presentation of SCFN that led to severe hypercalcemia refractory to standard treatment. Atypical intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma with two years of evolution and cutaneous infiltration

The intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a rare lesion that frequently affects the posterior region of the mandible. This case reports a multilocular osteolytic radiolucency with two years of evolution, that expanded and perforated the cortical bone, with irregular and indefinite margins, that extended from the mandibular angle to the ascendant ramus, with cutaneous ulceration, detected in a 51 years-old male. An incisional biopsy was performed and confirmed the diagnosis of low-grade intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandible with conservative surgical management : a case report

The aneurysmal bone cyst is a nonneoplastic, osteolytic and locally destructive lesion that mainly affects the metaphyseal area of long bones and only 2% of it is diagnosed in the maxillofacial skeleton. Although surgical treatment is the most common option, it is associated to high morbidity rates. The case of an aneurysmal bone cyst of a considerable size in a 27-year-old male patient illustrating a conservative surgical approach with preservation of the dental structures in the mandible to limit aesthetic and functional side effects is presented. Successful conservative treatment of a mandibular unicystic ameloblastoma : 13-year follow-up

Ameloblastoma is an uncommon, locally aggressive benign odontogenic tumor and can reach considerable dimensions causing facial deformity and functional impairment. They are characterized by local aggressiveness. It is recommended that maxillary ameloblastomas be treated aggressively due to proximity of various vital structures. Conservative treatments such as marsupialization, enucleation and curettage while preserving bone integrity seem to be associated with a high rate of recurrence.
