Phosphorylation Regulates CIRBP Arginine Methylation, Transportin-1 Binding and Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation

Arginine-glycine(-glycine) (RG/RGG) regions are highly abundant in RNA-binding proteins and involved in numerous physiological processes. Aberrant liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and stress granule (SGs) association of RG/RGG regions in the cytoplasm have been implicated in several neurodegenerative disorders. LLPS and SG association of these proteins is regulated by the interaction with nuclear import receptors, such as transportin-1 (TNPO1), and by post-translational arginine methylation. Abstract Background The human ERBB2 gene is frequently amplified in breast tumors, and its high expression is associated with poor prognosis. We previously reported a significant inverse correlation between Myc promoter-binding protein-1 (MBP-1) and ERBB2 expression in primary breast invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). Simple Summary For the first time, neuronal features are described in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) by a complex array of molecular techniques, including microRNA and gene expression profiling, RNA and Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing, and immunohistochemistry. The discovery of unexpected neural features in BPDCN may change our vision of this disease, leading to the designing of a new BPDCN cell model and to re-thinking the relations occurring between BPDCN and nervous system. Registration of childhood cancer: Moving towards pan-European coverage?

Cancer is relatively rare in childhood, but it contributes considerably to childhood mortality, years of life lost per person and late effects in survivors. Large populations need to be covered to set up meaningful studies of these rare conditions. Cancer registries ensure cancer surveillance, thus providing the basis for research as well as policy decisions. In this paper we examine coverage of childhood population by cancer registries in Europe and encourage national cancer registration. Protontherapy is a rapidly expanding radiotherapy modality where accelerated proton beams are used to precisely deliver the dose to the tumor target but is generally considered ineffective against radioresistant tumors. Proton-Boron Capture Therapy (PBCT) is a novel approach aimed at enhancing proton biological effectiveness. Spatio-temporal dynamics of oscillatory network activity in the neonatal mouse cerebral cortex

We used a 60-channel microelectrode array to study in thick (600-1000 microm) somatosensory cortical slices from postnatal day (P)0-P3 mice the spatio-temporal properties of early network oscillations. We recorded local non-propagating as well as large-scale propagating spontaneous oscillatory activity. Both types of activity patterns could never be observed in neocortical slices of conventional thickness (400 microm). Re-expression of C/EBP alpha induces CYP2B6, CYP2C9 and CYP2D6 genes in HepG2 cells.

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) activity is very low or even absent in human hepatomas, a phenomenon that is accompanied by low levels of some liver transcription factors, notably C/EBP alpha. To investigate a possible link between this transcription factor and hepatic CYP expression, we have stably transfected HepG2 cells with a C/EBP alpha vector containing a Zn-inducible metallothionein promoter. Expression of functional C/EBP alpha up to liver levels concomitantly increased the mRNAs of several members of the CYP2 family (2B6, 2C9 and 2D6), suggesting that this transcription factor may play a relevant role in controlling the hepatic expression of CYP enzymes.
