Currently, over a third of children not in school live in countries considered being as fragile. These countries, which are mainly located in sub-Saharan Africa, will not reach the objectives of Education For All for 2015. This thesis covers approaches across comparative education, political science and sociology of organizations. It explores empirically the condi¬tions of achievement of EFA within the contexts of fragility. However, potential benefits of MPAs to neighboring fisheries are less well-understood. This study quantifies how the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and the fishery for this valued catch respond to the establishment of a relatively small (5.2 km2) MPA on the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. In Placenten verschiedener Altersstufen wurde nach der Methode vonAnson die Kathepsinaktivitat bestimmt. Dabei zeigte sich, das gegenuber der Fruhgraviditat die Aktivitat am Ende der Schwangerschaft deutlich erniedrigt ist. Bemerkenswert ist die Gruppe der echten Schwangerschaftsubertragungen, die die niedrigsten Werte aufwiesen. Die Differenzen zwischen den einzelnen Gruppen sind statistisch signifikant. Die Bedeutung der Fermentaktivitat fur das Wachstum wird diskutiert.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of th e most common effects of aging in men. Epidemiologists estimate that about one quarter of all men over 50 years of age suffer from BPH-derived voiding symptoms. Future demographic developments, with higher relative shares of older people, will increase the socioeconomic impact of this disease. Polder et al. (1994) calculated for the Netherlands that the treatment costs of BPH will double by 2035. Office visits for BPH related symptoms increased in the USA from 1.4 million in 1990 to 6 million in 1995, reflecting the increased public awareness of the problem and the increased desire for treatment (Kaplan et al. 1996).

Screening for Solute Transporters in Plant Photosynthetic Membranes

As compared to chloroplast envelope transporters, the field of thylakoid transporters is largely unexplored. There is evidence for several transport activities in the plant thylakoid membrane, but only a copper P-type ATPase and an ATP/ADP carrier have been so far identified at the gene level in Arabidopsis thaliana. Using in silico analyses, we have predicted the existence of approximately 15 thylakoid transporters, including phosphate transporters and cation channels. For experimental validation, we have used peptide- specific antibodies and functional analyses in heterologous system. Photokinetic examination of (Z,E,E)-4,4′-distyrylazobenzene

Abstract 4,4′-Distyrylazobenzenes demonstrate a photokinetic equilibrium and a superimposed thermal backward reaction in which the absorption coefficient of one of the partners in the equilibrium is principally unknown. Using the dependence of the photostationary state on the irradiation intensity, the photochemical quantum yields ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B were determined, as well as the thermal rate constant k , as a function of the irradiation and observation wavelengths. Experimental difficulties and the wavelength dependence of ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B are discussed.

Regge phenomenology in π0 and η photoproduction

The $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}N$ and $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\eta}N$ reactions at photon beam energies above 4 GeV are investigated within Regge models. The models include $t$-channel exchanges of vector ($\ensuremath{\rho}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}$) and axial-vector (${b}_{1}$ and ${h}_{1}$) mesons. Moreover, Regge cuts of $\ensuremath{\rho}\mathbb{P},\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\rho}{f}_{2},\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\omega}\mathbb{P}$, and $\ensuremath{\omega}{f}_{2}$ are investigated.
