Perturbation of the oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction with polyethylene glycol

The effects of the water soluble non-ionic polymers poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG-400, PEG-900 and PEG-2000) and poly(ethylene glycol dimethylether) (MPEG-2000) on the dynamics of the cerium ion catalyzed oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction were investigated in a stirred batch reactor by measuring CO2 evolution rate and Ce(IV) absorbance changes. Addition of increasing amounts of additives strongly influences all the oscillatory parameters (induction period, time period and amplitude) to an extent that depends on the type of the additive used. This study assessed the feasibility and reproducibility of a previously validated temperament test (TT) for shelter dogs. The test was developed to measure dog behaviour in the kennel, and traits of sociability towards people and other dogs, docility to leash, playfulness, cognitive skills, and reactivity. Effect of temperature on anaerobic treatment of black water in UASB-septic tank systems

The effect of northern European seasonal temperature changes and low temperature on the performance of upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB)-septic tanks treating black water was studied. Three UASB-septic tanks were monitored with different operational parameters and at different temperatures. The results indicated the feasibility of the UASB-septic tank for (pre)treatment of black water at low temperatures with respect to removal of suspended solids and dissolved organic material.
