Perceived barriers to the provision of preventive care among dentists of Udaipur, India
2015
Aim: To investigate the practice-, patient- and dentist related barriers to the provision of preventive dental care as perceived by dentists of Udaipur city, Rajasthan, India. Settings and Design:- A cross sectional descriptive survey was conducted among 120 dentists of Udaipur city, Rajasthan. Material and Methods: Mean Content Validity Ratio (CVR) was calculated as 0.87 based on the opinions expressed by a panel of total six academicians. Cronbach's coefficient was found to be 0.88, which showed a high internal reliability of the questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of demographic questions and 12 specific research questions. Statistical analysis used:- Student's t-test and ANOVA te…
Peer assessment based assignment to enhance interactions in online learning groups
2015
In this paper, we report on the findings from our PhD work on how peer assessment based assignment method can enhance interaction in online learning groups. The method is explored and tried out on the research methods course on the Bachelor of Commerce Programme which is run in distance learning mode at Makerere University. Based on the idea that learning groups can enhance effective learning in online learning environments, we used the affordance eLearning framework to design the peer assessment based assignment task and then qualitative methods collect and report on data. The results reveal that there was increased interaction through peer feedback. Students were motivated because of the …
Validation of Fenoterol to Study β2-Adrenoceptor Function in the Rat Urinary Bladder
2021
Fenoterol is a β2-adrenoceptor (AR)-selective agonist that is commonly used to investigate relaxation responses mediated by β2-AR in smooth muscle preparations. Some data have questioned this because fenoterol had low potency in the rat urinary bladder when a muscarinic agonist was used as a pre-contraction agent and because some investigators proposed that fenoterol may act in part via β3-AR. We designed the present study to investigate whether fenoterol is a proper pharmacological tool to study β2-AR-mediated relaxation responses in the rat urinary bladder. Firstly, we have compared the effect of p…
Failure of 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ) to inhibit soluble guanylyl cyclase in rat ventricular cardiomyocytes
1999
The effects of 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), an inhibitor of soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC), were investigated in aortic rings and ventricular cardiomyocytes from rats. The production of cyclic GMP was stimulated by NO•-donors or carbachol. Additionally, the effects of ODQ were studied in cytosolic extracts from both tissues in which the cyclic GMP production was stimulated by S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP). In endothelium-intact aortic rings, SNAP (100 μM), 2,2′-(hydroxynitrosohydrazino)bis-ethanamine (DETA NONOate; 100 μM), or carbachol (10 μM) increased cyclic GMP levels about 4 fold. These effects were abolished by ODQ (50 μM). In cardiomyocytes, SNAP (100 μ…
Criticism of Metaphysics and Constitution of the Subject: Materialist Effects on the Philosophy of Helvétius and d'Holbach
2014
The series of books, marginalia, refutations, provoked by De l'esprit (1758) and De l'homme (1773) often plays a strategic role in the understanding of the Enlightenment. This paper focuses on what really happened when Rousseau did read and commented on Helvétius, which he made twice. Rousseau comments on the theory of judgment from the account of the experience of the sensitive and judging being. The question of matter and its properties will then no longer appear as the key to Rousseau's first reaction to Helvétius' work. Then we will see what closeness between the two philosophies need to be cleared. It will appear that Rousseau did not interpret (or rather misinterpret) Helvétius as the…
2010
We study the nonlinear mean-field dynamics of diatomic molecule formation at coherent photo- and magneto-association of ultracold atoms focusing on the case when the system is initially in the all-atomic state. We show that in the limit of strongly nonlinear interaction between an ultra-cold atomic-molecular system and a quasi-resonant electromagnetic field, the molecule formation process, depending on the characteristics of the associating field, may evolve according two different scenarios, namely, weak- and strong-oscillatory regimes. In the first case the number of molecules increases without pronounced oscillations of atom-molecule populations, while in the second case high-amplitude R…
Physiotherapy students’ conceptions of skill at the beginning of their Bachelor studies
2015
Skills have recently received widespread attention in education policy documents and discussions. This article reports the results of research on Bachelor’s degree physiotherapy students’ conceptions of skill at the beginning of their studies. The aim of the present study was to examine how beginning students understand skill, and the focus was on conceptions of skill in general rather than on any particular skills. The participants of the study were 35 physiotherapy students. The data were gathered within the first two weeks of their university studies. Specifically, requested essays written by the students were analyzed using the phenomenographic approach. The data-driven analysis yielded…
Effect of attitudes toward Physical Education on motives to sport practice outside school hours
2016
