Single thermal zone balance solved by Transfer Function Method

2005

We present an algorithm that uses the Z-transform operator to face the problem of heat transmission in a single thermal zone composed by multilayered walls. The method is very flexible and could be adopted to calculate the transfer function coefficients able to simulate the thermal behaviour of a room in free floating. Knowing the transfer function coefficients, it is possible to simulate the dynamic profile of each inner surfaces temperature and furthermore of the inner air temperature. The proposed algorithm is fully described granting maximum clarity. The explicitness of all steps of the calculus make possible the definition of a method that is able to vary all of the calculus parameters…

Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud: An Empirical Analysis of the Role of Neutralization Techniques Within the Context of Moral Intensity

2017

This study addresses a research gap in the literature of ethical decision-making which deals with the mediating role of central neutralization techniques between incidents of different severity and resulting consumer attitudes toward the company. It is widely accepted that irresponsible company actions effect consumer actions and attitudes toward the company in an unfavorable way. Yet, reality proves that this is only partly true, revealing moderate negative consequences for companies in scandalous situations. Consumers do not completely transfer their proethical attitude in actual purchase behavior, which leads to an attitude-behavior gap. We aim at explaining the psychological concepts ly…

Foot Print Towards Green Village - A Case on TARAGRAM

2012

This case is basically focused on particular villages of Bundelkhand region which are tending towards the self empowerment. It is about the down to earth solutions using concept of science and technology. It is about the synergistic approaches and about converting latent needs into demand. It is not compromising on quality and about increasing the productivity of all our resources within constrains of the environment to maintain ecological balance. The Development Alternatives Group, not for profit organization realized in the year of 1995 and in order to improve local economic conditions to meet basic needs, solutions were needed to respond to the needs based on local resource regeneration…

Diagnosis of mechanical unbalance for double cage induction motor load in time-varying conditions based on motor vibration signature analysis

2013

This paper investigates the detectability of mechanical unbalance in double cage induction motor load using motor vibration signature analysis technique. Rotor imbalances induce specific harmonic components in electrical, electromagnetical, and mechanical quantities. Harmonic components characteristic of this category of rotor faults, issued from vibration signals analysis, are closely related to rotating speed of the rotor, which complicates its detection under non-stationary operating conditions of the motor. Firstly, experimental results were performed first under healthy and mechanical load unbalance cases, for different load levels under steady-state operating conditions to evaluate th…

Credit Risk Versus Performance in the Romanian Banking System

2017

Abstract The Romanian banking sector, predominantly governed by the capital of foreign banks, is, as well as other international banking sectors, under the sign of the necessary balance that should exist between risk and performance. This is a result of banks trying to take risks that they can control, given that they need to generate financial results that are satisfactory for all categories of bank creditors, namely shareholders, depositors and other lenders. In this paper, I wanted to analyze the risk situation assumed by the main banks in the system versus the performance gained in recent years. This article is part of a wider research, so I will refer only to the main risk assumed by a…

Drivers of Firm Performance: Exploring Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches

2017

Abstract The main purpose of this paper is to identify the drivers of firm performance by exploring both quantitative indicators - based on accounting profitability, shareholder value and economic value – and qualitative approach – based on balanced scorecard and triple bottom line. A literature review will be provided in order to obtain an optimum mix of quantitative and qualitative drivers for firm performance, on one hand, and a case study will be conducted for emphasizing the importance of both approaches, on the other hand.

The Labour Market Crisis in Romania Causes, Effects and Potential Solutions

2020

Abstract We are going through troubled times, with worldwide pandemic crises affecting us altogether: citizens, companies and states. This article presents analyses and solutions to the workforce crisis of December 2019 and the workplace crisis of March 2020. Things have escalated from a workforce crisis to a new stage, namely an accelerated loss of workplaces and to a workplace crisis. In a matter of weeks, the labour market has moved from one extreme to the other extremely fast because of a very rough natural phenomenon which could not have been predicted, i.e. the global pandemic crisis caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus. It goes without saying that we all wish to achieve a relative bala…

Monetary valuation of salicylic acid, methylparaben and THCOOH in a Mediterranean coastal wetland through the shadow prices methodology

2018

The presence of pharmaceutical and personal care products and drugs of abuse (PPCPs) in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) indicates discharge of the effluent may not be suitable for the ecological balance of water ecosystems, such as wetlands. These PPCPs degrade water quality, considered as an ecosystem service (ES), provoking serious environmental impacts. Assessing the monetary value of PPCPs can be used as a proxy for environmental status of the ES of water quality (ESWQ). Considering PPCPs as non-desirable outputs of WWTPs, the shadow prices methodology has been implemented using directional distance function to measure the environmental avoided cost of removing salicylic acid (SA), …

Nutrient disturbance through manganese accumulation in Douglas fir

1998

Abstract The disturbance of the nutrient balance induced by a surplus of manganese is discussed as the main cause of the disease striking Douglas fir. In this context a close examination of the iron balance is of great interest. Despite high total iron content, damaged Douglas fir show symptoms similar to that of an iron deficiency chlorosis in which the redox state of iron seems to be affected (physiological iron-deficiency). The first results of the project strengthen this assumption. During this research project iron dependent systems (e.g. activities of iron dependent enzymes, structure of chloroplasts etc.) are being scrutinised by the use of various microtechnical and chemical methods…

An automatic tool for reconstructing monthly time-series of hydro-climatic variables at ungauged basins

2017

Abstract Integrative information models for filling/reconstructing hydro-climatic time-series are required for a variety of practical applications. A GIS-based model for a rapid and reliable assessment of monthly time-series of several key hydro-climatic variables at the basin scale, is here developed as plug-in and applied to the entire region of Sicily (Italy). The plug-in, once the desired basin outlet section and time-window are selected, uses appropriate spatial techniques and algorithms to identify its drainage area and estimate the corresponding mean areal rainfall and temperatures time-series. A recent regional regressive rainfall-runoff model is successively applied for the assessm…
