The present study examined whether activity energy expenditure related to body mass (AEE/kg) is associated with maximal aerobic fitness (VO(2max)), energy balance, and body mass index (BMI) during the 2 hardest weeks of the military basic training season (BT). An additional purpose was to study the accuracy of the pre-filled food diary energy intake. Energy expenditure (EE) with doubly labeled water, energy intake (EI), energy balance, and mis-recording was measured from 24 male conscripts with varying VO(2max). Visual evoked potentials in insulin-dependent diabetics

The latency of pattern-reversal VEPs was studied in type I insulin-dependent diabetics without retinal and extraocular involvement. One hundred eyes of 50 diabetics (mean age 19.8 +/- 7.2 years) formed the study group; the duration of the disease ranged between 1 month and 15 years. The latencies of VEPs were progressively delayed in relation to the duration of the disease, becoming more and more evident and stabilizing after about 6 years from the onset of diabetes. The VEP alterations probably indicate alteration of membrane balance or demyelinization.

Gait speed is a measure of health and functioning. Physical and cognitive determinants of gait are amenable to interventions, but best practices remain unclear. We investigated the effects of a 12-month physical and cognitive training (PTCT) on gait speed, dual-task cost in gait speed, and executive functions (EFs) compared with physical training (PT) (ISRCTN52388040).
