Prospective Multicenter Trial Comparing Push-and-Pull Enteroscopy With the Single- and Double-Balloon Techniques in Patients With Small-Bowel Disorders
Prospective, randomized, single-center trial comparing double-balloon enteroscopy and spiral enteroscopy in patients with suspected small-bowel disor…
2013
Background Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is an established method in diagnostic and therapeutic small-bowel enteroscopy. Objective Spiral enteroscopy (SE) appears to be a promising new technique. A randomized, prospective study was conducted to compare both methods. Design Randomized, prospective study. Setting Single tertiary referral center. Patients Between September 2009 and March 2011, 26 patients with suspected mid-GI disorders completed the study. Interventions Patients were randomly assigned to DBE or SE. The oral examination was conducted first, with the deepest point reached being marked with India ink. An additional anal examination followed the day after, with the aim of reac…
Performing Double-Balloon Enteroscopy: The Utility of the Erlangen EndoTrainer
2008
Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is now an established method for endoscopic visualization of the deep small bowel. DBE is not only a diagnostic tool, but also makes it possible to take biopsy samples and perform endoscopic therapeutic interventions. However, DBE is a complex examination and should therefore only be performed by experienced endoscopists after appropriate training. The best method of teaching DBE and improving the acquisition of competence appears to be through step-by-step training. Lectures and videos are very useful during the initial steps, whereas hands-on training with animal models and demonstration of live DBE procedures are the main components used for providing tra…

Balloon Enteroscopy: Single- and Double-Balloon Enteroscopy
2009
Balloon enteroscopy is a method that allows endoscopic inspection of the entire small bowel, or large parts of it, while simultaneously making it possible to obtain histologic samples and carry out treatment measures. Studies of double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) have confirmed the high diagnostic yield of the procedure, with an acceptably low complication rate (approximately 1% for diagnostic DBE and 3% to 4% for therapeutic DBE). The principal indication for the procedure is midgastrointestinal bleeding, that is, when the bleeding source is located in the small bowel. With good patient selection, the diagnostic yield here is 70% to 80%, and this has a substantial influence on subsequent tre…
Light-component spectrum of the primary cosmic rays in the multi-TeV region measured by the ARGO-YBJ experiment
2012
The ARGO-YBJ experiment detects extensive air showers in a wide energy range by means of a full-coverage detector which is in stable data taking in its full configuration since November 2007 at the YBJ International Cosmic Ray Observatory (4300 m a.s.l., Tibet, People's Republic of China). In this paper the measurement of the light-component spectrum of primary cosmic rays in the energy region $(5\textdiv{}200)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$ is reported. The method exploited to analyze the experimental data is based on a Bayesian procedure. The measured intensities of the light component are consistent with the recent CREAM results and higher than that obtained adding the proton and helium sp…
[Role of visual analysis of first-pass contrast-enhanced MRI in reperfused myocardial infarction].
2006
The aim of this work is to evaluate the relationship between improvement of regional myocardial function and visual analysis of contrast-enhanced (CE) MRI in patients after acute myocardial infarction. MRI was performed on 19 patients 1 and 11 weeks after a reperfused acute myocardial infarction. Perfusion data (first-pass images [FPI] and delayed CE images) were acquired after an intravenous bolus of gadolinium-DTPA and visually analyzed using a 17 segment model. Each segment was then classified in 3 groups, according to the presence or absence of FPI and CE patterns at baseline study: group 0: normal-appearing segments; group 1: segments with delayed hyper-enhancement but no early hypo-en…
Utility of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance to assess association between admission hyperglycemia and myocardial damage in patients with reperfused ST-segm…
2008
Abstract Aims to investigate the association between admission hyperglycemia and myocardial damage in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) using Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR). Methods We analyzed 113 patients with STEMI treated with successful primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Admission hyperglycemia was defined as a glucose level ≥ 7.8 mmol/l. Contrast-enhanced CMR was performed between 3 and 7 days after reperfusion to evaluate left ventricular function and perfusion data after injection of gadolinium-DTPA. First-pass images (FP), providing assessment of microvascular obstruction and Late Gadolinium Enhanced images (DE), reflecting the extent of in…
Results of heart retransplantation: subanalysis of the Spanish Heart Transplant Registry
2021
Heart retransplantation (ReHT) is controversial in the current era. The aim of this study was to describe and analyze the results of ReHT in Spain. Methods We performed a retrospective cohort analysis from the Spanish Heart Transplant Registry from 1984 to 2018. Data were collected on donors, recipients, surgical procedure characteristics, immunosuppression, and survival. The main outcome was posttransplant all-cause mortality or need for ReHT. We studied differences in survival according to indication for ReHT, the time interval between transplants and era of ReHT. Results A total of 7592 heart transplants (HT) and 173 (2.3%) ReHT were studied (median age, 52.0 and 55.0 years, respectively…
