Blood zinc levels and cognitive and functional evaluation in non-demented older patients.

A complete battery of geriatric and psychometric tests was used to determine whether plasma-borne zinc (Zn), a key ion in neuroplasticity, can be associated with the severity of functional, psychological and cognitive impairment in non-demented older individuals. There was a significant positive correlation between plasma Zn levels and the concentration subcategory measured with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) test (p  0.001), but not the total MMSE score, and the levels were significantly reduced in polymedicated patients (defined as concurrent administration of5 drugs). Background: The Nutritional Form for the Elderly (NUFFE) is a newly developed tool. This study aimed to carry out a psychometric evaluation of the Persian version of NUFFE (NUFFE-P) among nursing home residents. Methods: Nursing home participant’s aged ≥ 60 years (n=97) were enrolled. The inclusion criteria were residency for at least 6 months in the nursing home, and ability to communicate. Exclusion criteria included cognitive impairment, having depressed mood, severe hearing loss, problems in upper and lower extremities also, history of hospital admission during 6 months before enrollment. Sulla base della documentazione manoscritta, anche inedita, e di altre fonti si ripercorrono le vicende che portarono nel 1816 Barthold Georg Niebuhr a scoprire il palinsesto delle Istituzioni di Gaio nella Biblioteca Capitolare di Verona e si discute criticamente la casualità di tale scoperta.

In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar. Zasadniczą problematyką artykułu jest analiza wykładni angelologicznej dokonana przez Karla Bartha w jego monumentalnym dziele Dogmatyka kościelna i porównanie jej z katolicką ortodoksją Urzędu Nauczycielskiego Kościoła.
