Cognitive-Behavioural Treatment Package for Teaching Grooming Skills to a Man with an Intellectual Disability

2000

A combination of health education, use of picture cues based on task analyses, a system of least prompts and social reinforcement was applied to teach various grooming skills to a man with a moderate intellectual disability. A multiple baseline design across behaviours was employed to show the effects. The results indicated rapid learning of lacking skills such as tooth brushing, shaving, showering and washing of arms and face.

An Internet-delivered Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (iCBT) for Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) in adults: A multiple-baseline single-case experimental …

2022

The death of a loved one has physical, psychological, and social consequences. Between 9.8 and 21.5 % of people who lose a loved one develop Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD). Internet- and computer-based interventions (i.e., Internet-delivered Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, iCBT) are cost-effective and scalable alternatives that make it possible to reach more people with PGD. The main goal of the present investigation was to examine the effect and feasibility (usability and satisfaction) of an iCBT (GROw program) for adults with PGD. A secondary objective was to detect adherence to the app (Emotional Monitor) used to measure daily grief symptoms. The study had a singlecase multiple-baseline AB…

Radio-optical scrutiny of compact AGN

2010

We study the correlations between the VLBA (Very Long Baseline Array) radio emission at 15GHz, extended emission at 151MHz, and optical nuclear emission at 5100{AA} for a complete sample of 135 compact jets. We use the partial Kendall's tau correlation analysis to check the link between radio properties of parsec-scale jets and optical nuclear luminosities of host active galactic nuclei (AGN). The impact of sea-level rise on baselines: a question of interpretation of the UNCLOS or evolution of customary law?

2022

In the framework of the broader question of the adverse impact of sea-level rise on low-lying coastal and archipelagic States, the specific question of the effects on baselines has been receiving increasing attention in the international debate. The question is whether, once a State has determined its baselines by a legislative or administrative act, these lines are fixed and will not be altered by any subsequent physical change due to the SLR. In other words, could baselines be opposable to other States regardless of a substantial change in the configuration of the coasts? Or, on the contrary, are baselines ambulatory so that in case of inundation of coastal areas, the baselines will move …

LBNO-DEMO (WA105): a large demonstrator of the Liquid Argon double phase TPC

2016

LBNO-DEMO (WA105) is a large demonstrator of the double phase liquid argon TPC intended to develop and test the main elements of the GLACIER-based design for the purpose of scaling it up to the 10–50 kton size needed for Long Baseline Neutrino Oscillation studies. The crucial components of the design are: ultra-high argon purity in non-evacuable tank, long drifts, very high drift voltages, large area Micro Pattern Gas Detectors, and cold preamplifiers. The active volume of the demonstrator is 6×6×6 m3 (approximately 300t). WA105 is under construction at CERN and will be exposed to charged particle beams (0.5-20 GeV/c) in the North Area in 2018. The data will provide the necessary calibratio…

Monitoring a meat-free pledge with smartphones:An experimental study

2020

Pledges are a popular strategy to encourage meat reduction, though experimental studies of their efficacy are lacking. Three-hundred and twenty-five participants from three different countries (UK, Germany, Australia) were randomly assigned to pledge 28 days meat-free or not, and their behavior was tracked via smartphones. Participants answered daily surveys regarding their eating behavior, meat cravings, and shared photos of their meals. Baseline data was collected prior to the pledge, after the 28 days, and one-month post-intervention. Participants assigned to the pledge condition ate less meat across the 28 days, compared to control participants. Meat reductions, observed at outtake, did…

8.4GHz VLBI observations of SN2004et in NGC6946

2007

We report on 8.4GHz Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations of the type II-P supernova SN2004et in the spiral galaxy NGC 6946, made on 20 February 2005 (151 days after explosion). The Very Large Array (VLA) flux density was 1.23$\pm$0.07 mJy, corresponding to an isotropic luminosity at 8.4GHz of (4.45$\pm$0.3)$\times10^{25}$ erg s$^{-1}$ Hz$^{-1}$ and a brightness temperature of (1.3$\pm$0.3)$\times10^{8}$ K. We also provide an improved source position, accurate to about 0.5 mas in each coordinate. The VLBI image shows a clear asymmetry. From model fitting of the size of the radio emission, we estimate a minimum expansion velocity of 15,700$\pm$2,000 km s$^{-1}$. This velocity…

Family-Based Intervention Program for Parents of Substance-Abusing Youth and Adolescents.

2016

Theuse of drugs among adolescents/youth often results in a high degree of distress for the familymembers who live with them. This in turn can lead to a deterioration of mental (psychological) health, hindering any attempt to successfully cope with the situation. The goal of our research was to study the effect of the Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) program on parents of adolescents/young adult drug users. Study volunteers (𝑛 = 50) were parents fromValencia (Spain) that were divided into two groups. The experimental group (𝑛 = 25) was made up of parents whose sons and daughters exhibited problems with drug use and the constructed noncausal baseline group (𝑛 = 25)…

Triple therapy de-escalation to dual bronchodilation in COPD patients: Baseline data from the DACCORD cohort

2020

Background: GOLD recommends triple therapy only in COPD patients with frequent exacerbations despite long-acting bronchodilators who exhibit a high blood eosinophil level (≥300/μL). Indication for ICS containing therapy should be reassessed regularly. Methods: The German real life study DACCORD included COPD patients who had received free triple therapy for ≥ 6 months prior to study entry. At baseline, patients were switched to LABA+LAMA fixed-dose combination (FDC) or maintained triple therapy upon discretion of the treating physician. Here, we compare baseline data of the 2 groups. Results: 1182 patients were recruited into DACCORD of which 30.7% were moved to LABA+LAMA FDC. Patients in t…
