The aim of the present thesis is to bring a new contribution on this thematic in a microeconomic approach. It consists of two parts. The use of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) with ad-hoc built-in information retrieval and auto-localization functionalities can help people navigating an environment in a more natural manner compared to traditional audio/visual pre-recorded guides. In this work we propose and discuss a user-friendly, multi-modal guide system for pervasive context-aware service provision within augmented environments. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, miten aikuisten maahanmuuttajaopiskelijoiden opettajat ymmärtävät perustaidot ja opiskelutaidot sekä miten he pedagogisoivat perustaitojen opetusta arvioinnin avulla. Perustaitoja ovat luku- ja kirjoitustaidot, numeeriset taidot ja ongelmanratkaisutaidot teknologisesti kehittyneissä ympäristöissä. Aineisto kerättiin opettajien täydennyskoulutuksessa ja se koostuu opettajien laatimista arviointi- ja oppimistehtävistä sekä reflektoinneista. Using Social Simulations in Interdisciplinary Primary Education: An Expert Appraisal

Many people recognize that teaching basic skills in primary schools (reading, writing, and arithmetic) is no longer sufficient for pupils in the digital age. Therefore, governments now increasingly ask schools to add other skills (oral, digital) and to create connections between subjects (e.g., use mathematics in history lessons). In this study, we explored how social simulations can be used in primary education to meet these new goals. When Investment in Basic Skills Gives Negative Returns

In recent years, the Norwegian government has invested heavily in improving basic skills in the adult population. Initiatives have included legislation, the introduction of work-based adult education programs, and reforms in schooling. In light of this investment, we explore trends in adult literacy and numeracy, by comparing data from two international surveys of adult skills, conducted in 2003 and 2012. Paradoxically, the proportion of low-performing adults appears to have increased, most significantly in the 16- to 24-year age group and in the foreign-born population.
