The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of the same. Il saggio, primo approccio su un argomento affrontato molto più ampiamente due anni dopo, tratta dell'annoso restauro in stile del quattrocentesco Palazzo Pietratagliata di Palermo condotto a partire dal 1908 e concluso solamente intorno al 1930. La ricerca pubblicata è stata condotta all'Archivio Centrale dello Stato di Roma, all'Archivio della Soprintendenza ai BB.CC.AA. di Palermo, nell'Archivio di casa Pietratagliata e nell'Archivio Palazzotto di Palermo, al fine di produrre notizie del tutto inedite e di rivedere radicalmente quanto finora affermato dalla letteratura artistica sull'argomento.

The essay intends to outline some aspects of the human and intellectual relationship between Nicola Cusano and Enea Silvio Piccolomini starting from the experiences they shared during the lively initial phases of the ecumenical Council of Basel (1431-1449). Both represent, though on different operational planes, achievement of awareness of their epoch, that is to say the best of European humanistic culture that intervened, in a perfect blending of active life and contemplative life, to solve one of the most complex and dramatic political-cultural issues of the day.

Purpose: Transoral odontoidectomy followed by occipito-cervical fixation is a widely used approach to relieve ventral compressions at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ). Despite the large amount of literature on this approach and its complications, no previous reports of odontoid process and clival regeneration following transoral odontoidectomy are present in the English literature.
