A Comparative Ab Initio Thermodynamic Study of Oxygen Vacancies in ZnO and SrTiO3: Emphasis on Phonon Contribution

2013

Using a hybrid Hartree–Fock (HF)-DFT method combined with LCAO basis set and periodic supercell approach, the atomic, electronic structure and phonon properties of oxygen vacancies in ZnO and SrTiO3 were calculated and compared. The important role of a ghost basis function centered at the vacant site and defect spin state for SrTiO3 is discussed. It is shown that the use of hybrid functionals is vital for correct reproduction of defects basic properties. The Gibbs free energy of formation of oxygen vacancies and their considerable temperature dependence has been compared for the two oxides. These calculations were based on the polarizability model for the soft mode temperature behavior in S…

Theoretical absorption spectrum of the Ar–CO van der Waals complex

2003

The three-dimensional intermolecular electric dipole moment surface of Ar–CO is calculated at the coupled cluster singles and doubles level of theory with the aug-cc-pVTZ basis set extended with a 3s3p2d1f1g set of midbond functions. Using the rovibrational energies and wave functions of our recent study [J. Chem. Phys. 117, 6562 (2002)], temperature-dependent spectral intensities are evaluated and compared to available experimental data. Based on the theoretical spectrum, alternative assignments of the experimentally observed lines in the fundamental band of CO around 2160 and 2166 cm−1 are suggested. Thomas.Bondo@uv.es

Basis-set extrapolation techniques for the accurate calculation of molecular equilibrium geometries using coupled-cluster theory

2006

To reduce remaining basis-set errors in the determination of molecular equilibrium geometries, a basis-set extrapolation (BSE) scheme is suggested for the forces used in geometry optimizations. The proposed BSE scheme is based on separating the Hartree-Fock and electron-correlation contributions and uses expressions obtained by straightforward differentiation of well established extrapolation formulas for energies when using basis sets from Dunning's hierarchy of correlation-consistent basis sets. Comparison with reference data obtained at the R12 coupled-cluster level [CCSD(T)-R12] demonstrates that BSE significantly accelerates the convergence to the basis-set limit, thus leading to impro…

A simple scheme for the direct calculation of ionization potentials with coupled-cluster theory that exploits established excitation energy methods

1999

Vertical ionization potentials can be obtained from existing computer programs for the high-level treatment of excited states by simply including a continuum orbital in the basis set. Exploiting this feature easily allows final state energies for ionized states to be calculated at several previously untested levels of theory that go beyond the equation-of-motion coupled-cluster singles and doubles model. Values obtained for N2, CO, and F2 with the most theoretically complete approximations studied here (those based on the CCSDT-3 and CC3 parametrizations of the neutral ground state) are in excellent agreement with experiment when a large basis set is used.

Analytic gradients for Mukherjee’s multireference coupled-cluster method using two-configurational self-consistent-field orbitals

2010

Analytic gradients for the state-specific multireference coupled-cluster method suggested by Mahapatra et al. [Mol. Phys. 94, 157 (1998)] (Mk-MRCC) are reported within the singles and doubles approximation using two-configurational self-consistent field (TCSCF) orbitals. The present implementation extends our previous work on Mk-MRCC gradients [E. Prochnow et al., J. Chem. Phys. 131, 064109 (2009)] which is based on restricted Hartree-Fock orbitals and consequently the main focus of the present paper is on the treatment of orbital relaxation at the TCSCF level using coupled-perturbed TCSCF theory. Geometry optimizations on m-arynes and nitrenes are presented to illustrate the influence of t…

Convergence of nuclear magnetic shieldings and one‐bond 1J(11 B 1H) indirect spin–spin coupling constants in small boron molecules

2018

Self‐consistent field Hartree–Fock (SCF‐HF), density functional theory (B3LYP, KT1, KT2, and KT3), and coupled‐cluster calculations of the nuclear magnetic shielding constants of BH and BH3 molecules have been conducted to characterize the convergence of individual results obtained with correlation‐ and polarization‐consistent basis sets. The individual 11B and 1H NMR parameters were estimated in the complete basis set limit and compared with benchmark literature results. The SCF‐HF and density functional theory B3LYP predicted boron shieldings and shielding anisotropies of BH significantly differed from the results obtained by coupled‐cluster with single, double, and perturbative treatment…

H2 O, H2 , HF, F2 and F2 O nuclear magnetic shielding constants and indirect nuclear spin-spin coupling constants (SSCCs) in the BHandH/pcJ-n and BHa…

2009

Good performance of segmented contracted basis sets XZP, where X = D, T, Q and 5, for obtaining H(2)O, H(2), HF, F(2) and F(2)O nuclear isotropic shielding constants in the BHandH Kohn-Sham basis set limit was shown. The results of two- and three-parameter complete basis set limit extrapolation schemes were compared with experimental results, earlier literature data and benchmark ab initio results. Similar convergence patterns of shieldings obtained from calculations using general purpose XZP basis sets and from polarization-consistent basis sets pcS-n and pcJ-n, where n = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, designed to accurately predict magnetic properties were observed. On the contrary, the SSCCs were mor…

Basis Set Convergence of Indirect Spin-Spin Coupling Constants in the Kohn-Sham Limit for Several Small Molecules

2012

The performance of more than 40 density functionals in predicting indirect spin-spin coupling constants (SSCCs) in the Kohn-Sham basis set limit was tested. For comparison, similar calculations were performed using the RHF, SOPPA, SOPPA(CC2), and SOPPA(CCSD) methods, and the results were estimated toward the complete basis set (CBS) limit. The SSCCs of nine small molecules (N(2), CO, CO(2), NH(3), CH(4), C(2)H(2), C(2)H(4), C(2)H(6), and C(6)H(6)) were calculated using the dedicated Jensen pcJ-n polarization-consistent basis sets and used for the CBS limit estimations within the Kohn-Sham limit. These CBS results were compared with calculations using the aug-cc-pVTZ-J basis set. Among the 4…

Full configuration-interaction and coupled-cluster calculations of the indirect spin–spin coupling constant of BH

2003

Abstract Full configuration-interaction calculations of the indirect spin–spin coupling constant of the BH molecule have been carried out in order to investigate the performance of various coupled-cluster (CC) methods in the treatment of electron-correlation effects, while the corresponding basis set convergence is analyzed in CC singles and doubles calculations. Assuming additivity of correlation and basis set effects, a theoretical estimate of 50.67 Hz is obtained for the 11 B 1 H spin–spin coupling constant.
