Constructing a Transmedia Universe : The Case of Battlestar Galactica

In this article, we define a ‘transmedia universe’ as encompassing the complexity of transmedia storytelling, production and consumption. In doing so, we use the popular science fiction television series Battlestar Galactica as a case study, including both the original and reimagined versions of the series and their various intramedia and transmedia, narrative and non-narrative, and diegetic and non-diegetic expansions. Moreover, we look beyond the official productions of the Battlestar Galactica franchise and include, for example, user-generated content within its transmedia universe. peerReviewed
“Never shake thy gory locks at me” (Macbeth, III.iv.50-51): Objecting to Gestures in Macbeth

International audience; Shakespeare's Macbeth displays a pattern of characters objecting to gestures, be it others' or their own. This includes Macbeth refusing to shake hands with his opponent before the battle, his words to Banquo's ghost quoted in the title above, Banquo's own puzzlement at the weird sisters' placing a finger over their lips, the doctor's suspicions at Lady Macbeth's rubbing her hands and sleepwalking, as well as Malcom's request that Macduff not pull his hat over his eyes. In many of these cases, gesture is pitted against speech, which seems to undermine the classically-derived ideal of "suit[ing] the word to the action, the action to the word" (Hamlet, 3.2.16-18). Ścisły związek pomiędzy średniowiecznym rycerstwem a kulturą monastyczną najczęściej kojarzony jest z powstaniem zakonów rycerskich. Wpływ duchowości i religijności chrześcijańskiej na kształtowanie wizerunku doskonałego rycerza znajduje swoje w rozlicznych tekstach literackich, także tych, tworzonych do celów politycznych. Z takim przypadkiem mamy do czynienia w tekście Jana Długosza, opisującym starcie się wojsk na polach Grunwaldu w 1410 roku. Przedstawienie tam płaczących dowódców, stających naprzeciwko siebie wojsk chrześcijańskich, miało swój jasno sprecyzowany cel, jakim było wykazanie słuszności przystąpienia do walki, w której efekcie zginęli wyznawcy Chrystusa.
