QEC value of the superallowed β emitter Sc42

2017

Precise measurements of superallowed ${0}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{0}^{+}$ $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay presently provide the most precise value for the weak mixing amplitude ${V}_{u\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}d}$. As the largest element of the CKM matrix, ${V}_{u\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}d}$ is a critical piece of the Standard Model of the electroweak interaction. The new, precise Penning-trap mass measurement of the decay energy for the superallowed transition in ${}^{42}$Sc opens the door for a much more precise $f\phantom{\rule{0}{0ex}}t$ value determination if its half-life can be measured more precisely as well.

The T2K experiment reports an updated analysis of neutrino and antineutrino oscillations in appearance and disappearance channels. A sample of electron neutrino candidates at Super-Kamiokande in which a pion decay has been tagged is added to the four single-ring samples used in previous T2K oscillation analyses. Through combined analyses of these five samples, simultaneous measurements of four oscillation parameters, |Δm322|, sin2θ23, sin2θ13, and δCP and of the mass ordering are made. A set of studies of simulated data indicates that the sensitivity to the oscillation parameters is not limited by neutrino interaction model uncertainty. Multiple oscillation analyses are performed, and frequ…

Search forD0−D¯0Mixing and a Measurement of the Doubly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay Rate inD0→KπDecays

2003

The authors present a search for D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing using regions of phase space in which the rate of doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0} relative to Cabibbo-favored decays D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup -} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup 0} is reduced. They analyze 230.4 fb{sup -1} of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} collider at SLAC. They present results with and without the assumption of CP conservation. Assuming CP conservation, they measure the time-integrated mixing rate R{sub M} = (0.023{sub -0.014}{sup +0.018}(stat.) {+-} 0.004(syst.))%, and R{sub M} < 0.054% at the 95% confidence level. They find that the d…

Neutrino Unification

2000

Present neutrino data are consistent with neutrino masses arising from a common seed at some ``neutrino unification'' scale $M_X$. Such a simple theoretical ansatz naturally leads to quasi-degenerate neutrinos that could lie in the electron-volt range with neutrino mass splittings induced by renormalization effects associated with supersymmetric thresholds. In such a scheme the leptonic analogue of the Cabibbo angle $\theta_{\odot}$ describing solar neutrino oscillations is nearly maximal. Its exact value is correlated with the smallness of $\theta_{reactor}$. These features agree both with latest data on the solar neutrino spectra and with the reactor neutrino data. The two leading mass-ei…

Violation of matter-antimatter symmetry

2001

A small matter-antimatter asymmetry of the weak force was experimentally established. This CP violation may be related to the small excess of matter from the big bang. The nature of CP violation in the K0 system has been clarified after 35 years of experimentation: it is due to a small part of the weak interaction (“milliweak interaction”). A non-trivial phase in the weak quark mixing matrix generates “direct CP violation” in the weak Hamiltonian. The experiments demonstrating direct CP violation are discussed.

Exclusive Semileptonic B and D Decays

1989

Interest in semileptonic (s.l.) bottom meson decays in the last few years has focused on the lepton energy end point spectrum. Theoretical models were needed for the description of the endpoint spectrum in order to be able to experimentally extract values for the ratio of KM matrix elements |Vbu/Vbc|. As approximately 90% of the total s.l. decay rate of bottom mesons is into the exclusive modes D and D* it was quite natural to try and model the endpoint spectrum by exclusive contributions. This approach was pioneered by GILMAN, ISGUR and WISE (GIW) in [1].

Constraints on the unitarity triangle angleγfrom Dalitz plot analysis ofB0→DK+π−decays

2016

The first study is presented of CP violation with an amplitude analysis of the Dalitz plot of B0→DK+π- decays, with D→K+π-, K+K-, and π+π-. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb-1 of pp collisions collected with the LHCb detector. No significant CP violation effect is seen, and constraints are placed on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle formed from elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. Hadronic parameters associated with the B0→DK∗(892)0 decay are determined for the first time. These measurements can be used to improve the sensitivity to γ of existing and future studies of the B0→DK∗(892)0 decay.

A flavour physics scenario for the 750 GeV diphoton anomaly

2016

A simple variant of a realistic flavor symmetry scheme for fermion masses and mixings provides a possible interpretation of the diphoton anomaly as an electroweak singlet ``flavon.'' The existence of TeV scale vectorlike T-quarks required to provide adequate values for Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) parameters can also naturally account for the diphoton anomaly. Correlations between ${V}_{ub}$ and ${V}_{cb}$ with the vectorlike T-quark mass can be predicted. Should the diphoton anomaly survive in a future run, our proposed interpretation can also be tested in upcoming B and LHC studies.
