A New Heterogeneous Catalyst Obtained via Supramolecular Decoration of Graphene with a Pd2+ Azamacrocyclic Complex

2019

A new G-(H2L)-Pd heterogeneous catalyst has been prepared via a self-assembly process consisting in the spontaneous adsorption, in water at room temperature, of a macrocyclic H2L ligand on graphene (G) (G + H2L = G-(H2L)), followed by decoration of the macrocycle with Pd2+ ions (G-(H2L) + Pd2+ = G-(H2L)-Pd) under the same mild conditions. This supramolecular approach is a sustainable (green) procedure that preserves the special characteristics of graphene and furnishes an efficient catalyst for the Cu-free Sonogashira cross coupling reaction between iodobenzene and phenylacetylene. Indeed, G-(H2L)-Pd shows an excellent conversion (90%) of reactants into diphenylacetylene under mild conditio…

Tetrathiafulvalene-Based Mixed-Valence Acceptor-Donor-Acceptor Triads: A Joint Theoretical and Experimental Approach

2013

This work presents a joint theoretical and experimental characterisation of the structural and electronic properties of two tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-based acceptor-donor-acceptor triads (BQ-TTF-BQ and BTCNQ-TTF - BTCNQ; BQ is naphthoquinone and BTCNQ is benzotetracyano-p-quinodimethane) in their neutral and reduced states. The study is performed with the use of electrochemical, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemical techniques guided by quantum-chemical calculations. Emphasis is placed on the mixed-valence properties of both triads in their radical anion states. The electrochemical and EPR results reveal that both BQ-TTF-BQ and BTCNQ-TTF-BTCNQ triads in…

Variations of acidic functions at position 2 and substituents at positions 4, 5 and 6 of the indole moiety and their effect on NMDA-glycine site affi…

2003

The synthetic procedures to obtain indole derivatives with different acidic functions at position 2 of the indole are reported. The synthesised and tested derivatives comprise 5-tetrazolyl, 1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl-2-one, and indole-2-carboxylic acid amides with 5-aminotetrazole, methanesulphonamide and trifluoromethanesulphonamide moieties. The binding affinity was evaluated using [3H]MDL 105,519 and pig cortical brain membranes. In general, compounds with acidic functions different from a carboxylic acid moiety are less potent than indole-2-carboxylic acid derivatives. Also, the 4,6-dichloro substitution pattern was compared to 5-tert-butyl derivatives and compounds not substituted in the ben…

On novel magnetic probe for fullerene characterization: Theoretical studies on NMR parameters of free and confined in fullerenes HD and H2 molecules

2015

Chemical characterization and separation of individual fullerenes from a raw reaction mixture need new and efficient tools, including rapid spectroscopic techniques. Recent "molecular surgery" synthesis of endohedral complexes of fullerenes with selected atoms and small molecules has opened a new path for experimental and theoretical studies on structural and spectroscopic properties of these molecular systems. Among them are fullerenes with molecular hydrogen confined within a nanoscale cavity. In this work we report on quantum-chemical prediction of nuclear magnetic shielding (and chemical shift) and indirect spin-spin coupling constant in free HD and H2 molecules, as well as models of co…

Simultaneous Freezing of Chirality and In−Out Conformation of a Macropentacyclic Cryptand by Protonation

2004

Compound 1, a cryptand-derived macropentacycle, is a flexible molecule that encompasses many conformations (symmetrical, unsymmetrical, and chiral ones) depending on the observation temperature (VT 1H NMR). Selective monoprotonation of this molecule leads to a totally unsymmetrical, rigidly chiral species in solution (1H NMR). Helical chirality and in-out conformation of monoprotonated 1 are observed in the solid state by X-ray diffraction analysis, as well as the proton location. The latter is bound to the endo bridgehead nitrogen atom and involved in hydrogen-bonding interactions with the three closest sulfurs. Significant induction of chirality is triggered by reaction of 1 with the opti…

Orientational preferences of aromatic guests in dimeric capsules of tetraurea calix[4]arenes—MD and NMR studies

2006

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed for complexes of a dimeric capsule of a tetraurea calixarene with a series of twelve aromatic guests. A distinct orientational preference and a restriction of the internal mobility was found which depend on the size and electronic properties of the guests. The results are in agreement with the CIS values obtained from (1)H NMR spectroscopic measurements and with complexation selectivities obtained by competition experiments.

Congested ferrocenyl polyphosphanes bearing electron-donating or electron-withdrawing phosphanyl groups: assessment of metallocene conformation from …

2011

International audience; The synthesis of novel substituted cyclopentadienyl salts that incorporate both a congested branched alkyl group (tert-butyl, (triphenyl)methyl, or tri(4-tert-butyl)phenylmethyl) and a phosphanyl group is reported. The introduction of either electron-withdrawing or electron-donating substituents (furyl, i-propyl, cyclohexyl, tert-butyl) on P atoms was generally achieved in high yield. The modular synthesis of ferrocenyl polyphosphanes from an assembly of these cyclopentadienyl salts was investigated, leading to the formation of new triphosphanes (denoted as 9-12) and diphosphanes (denoted as 14-16). The resulting phosphanes are not sensitive to air or moisture, even …

Carbon nanorings: A challenge to theoretical chemistry

2006

High-level quantum-chemical methods show that the binding in the inclusion complex of hexamethylbenzene (HMB) in 6-cycloparaphenilacetylene (6-CPPA) cannot be explained only in terms of electrostatic interactions - caused by the polarization associated to curved π-conjugated systems - and the inclusion of dispersion forces is definitely needed. The theoretical description of van der Waals interactions is notoriously complicated and in fact some DFT methods cannot even predict the existence of the relatively small supramolecular nanoring studied here. However, ab initio MP2 calculations agree with experimental data and show that, in the considered complex, the HMB fragment is placed at the …

Pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives as COX-2 selective inhibitors: synthesis and molecular modelling studies.

2009

The pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine system shows a multitude of interesting pharmacological properties. Owing to the potential anti-inflammatory activity of 5-benzamido-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin- 4-one derivatives and considering the easy synthesis of this class of compounds, a set of new 5- benzamido-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-ones has been prepared in 42-80% yields by reacting 5- aminopyrazole-4(N-benzoyl)carbohydrazide derivatives and the opportune triethylorthoesters. Compounds 8a, b, 10a–d, and 11a, b revealed a superior inhibitory profile against COX-2, when compared to that of reference standards NS398 and indomethacin. Molecular modelling studies confirmed the obtained biological result…

A DFT study of [3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions of an azomethine imine with N-vinyl pyrrole and N-vinyl tetrahydroindole

2016

The mechanism and selectivities of the [3+2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of azomethine imine (AI) 8 with two N-vinyl five-membered heterocycles (NVFH), 9a and 9b, have been theoretically studied using DFT methods at the MPWB1K/6-31G(d) computational level. The possible ortho/meta regio- and endo/exo stereoselective channels were explored and characterised. The low polar character of these 32CA reactions, which is the consequence of the high nucleophilic character of both reagents, as well as the non-effective reactivity of these NVFH as nucleophiles, accounts for the high calculated activation energies, 16.1 (9a) and 16.8 (9b) kcalmol-1 in chlorobenzene. Analysis of the relative electron…
