Influences of synoptic situation and teleconnections on fog-water collection in the Mediterranean Iberian Peninsula, 2003-2012
2019
Fog-water collection has been widely analysed for its quantification and potential uses; however, there are few studies assessing the synoptic conditions and large-scale teleconnection patterns that affect its occurrence. Focusing on the Mediterranean Iberian Peninsula, this work aims to analyse the synoptic patterns, both at surface level and 850 hPa geopotential height, that most likely to favour fog-water collection, and to quantify the relationship between fog-water collection and the NAOi (North Atlantic Oscillation index), MOi (Mediterranean Oscillation index) as well as WeMOi (Western Mediterranean Oscillation index) teleconnection patterns. For this purpose, daily fog-water observat…
Coastal Evolution in a Mediterranean Microtidal Zone: Mid to Late Holocene Natural Dynamics and Human Management of the Castellò Lagoon, NE Spain
2016
We present a palaeoenvironmental study of the Castelló lagoon (NE Spain), an important archive for understanding long-term interactions between dynamic littoral ecosystems and human management. Combining geochemistry, mineralogy, ostracods, diatoms, pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, charcoal and archaeo-historical datasets we reconstruct: 1) the transition of the lagoon from a marine to a marginal environment between ~3150 cal BC to the 17th century AD; 2) fluctuations in salinity; and 3) natural and anthropogenic forces contributing to these changes. From the Late Neolithic to the Medieval period the lagoon ecosystem was driven by changing marine influence and the land was mainly exploited …
Pseudolillia Maubeuge, 1949 (Ammonitida, Hildoceratidae) in the Lower Jurassic (Toarcian) of the NE Spain
2017
In the present paper, 147 specimens assigned to the genus Pseudolillia Maubeuge, 1949 are studied. This is a considerably high number of samples in comparison with those known in other geographical areas where they have been cited, such as northern France, the Pyrenees, the Betic Range, Morocco, Portugal, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria. The six taxa described, P. murvillensis, P. hispanica, P. emiliana, P. donovani, Pseudolillia ? n. sp. (en García-Gómez & Rivas, 1980), and Pseudolillia ? sp., come from 22 sites in the Cantabrian and Iberian Ranges and the Isle of Majorca. Their presence in expanded sections enabled us to situate the stratigraphic position of the genus between the upper part o…
About the finding of the invasive geomitrid Xerolenta obvia (Menke, 1828) (Mollusca, Stylommatophora) in Andorra.
2022
An invasive snail population of Xerolenta obvia was discovered at the end of 2021 in Sant Julià de Lòria (Principat d'Andorra). This location, the first occurrence of this species for this country, is intermediate between the few locations in the south of France and the only known location in Spain. For its taxonomical determination, morpho-anatomical studies of the shell and the reproductive system have been carried out, and it has been compared with other species of geomitrids that are more similar based on the shell, such as Cernuella neglecta or Helicella itala and even, for less expert people, with Xerosecta cespitum arigonis, also present in Andorra. X. obvia is an i…
Characterization of the land snail Ganula lanuginosa (Boissy, 1835) (Mollusca: Hygromiidae): new invader of the Iberian Peninsula.
2021
Recently, a well-established population of the hygromiid Ganula lanuginosa has been discovered in the Iberian Peninsula, specifically in Xàtiva (Province of Valencia, Spain), corresponding to the first record for the Iberian Peninsula and the Continental Europe. It is a land snail native to North Africa and also known from the European Mediterranean islands, namely the Balearic Islands (Spain), Sardinia (Italy) and Corsica (France). Morpho-anatomical studies of the shell and the reproductive system have been carried out, and these features have been compared with those of the most similar hygromiids, which has allowed us to correctly identify them. In addition, parasitological and ec…
Oenothera laciniata Hill (Onagraceae) en la Comunidad Valenciana
2012
Oenothera laciniata is reported for the first time in the Valencian Community (E of Spain), a report t…
Archaeology, chronology, and age-diet insights of two late fourth millennium cal BC pit graves from central southern Iberia (Córdoba, Spain)
2020
This study presents the isotopic ratios, radiocarbon datings, and anthropological analyses of five (N = 5) Early Copper Age individuals from two archaeological sites (Arruzafa and Iglesia Antigua de Alcolea) of the Middle Guadalquivir Valley near the city of Córdoba (Spain). Four had been buried in the same grave, possibly in a single event or in a very short time lapse. The collagen residue analyses of the individuals offer δC values ranging between −20.08 and −18.4 and δN values between 8.57 and 11.15. The findings indicate that the infant and the elderly had, respectively, the richest and poorest animal protein diets, the first likely as a result of nursing. The combined study of these f…
The Ventian mammal age (Latest Miocene): present state
2013
[EN] The Ventian land mammal age includes most of the Spanish faunas assigned to the biochronologic unit MN 13. It is correlatable with the Messinian, although it may include, in its latest part, Early Pliocene faunas. We propose that the Ventian begins with the fi rst occurrence of the Muridae genus Stephanomys (7 Ma, paleomagnetic dating from El Bunker, Teruel basin), well recorded in Teruel basin, and ends with the appearance of Promimomys (ca. 5 Ma), also registered in the Teruel basin. We suggest a new reorganization of the Ventian. The first subdivision corresponds to the zone M (Dam et al., 2001). The second, zone N, is proposed here for the first time, being equivalent to the zone w…
First Early Pliocene micromammal faunas from Venta del Moro (Cabriel Basin, Spain) : new data on the Messinian dispersal of Debruijnimys
2021
The localities of La Bullana 3 and LA Bullana 2B (Valencia, E Spain) have yielded remains of Apodemusgorafensis, Paraethomys aff. abaigari, Stephanomys dubari, Apocricetus barrierei, Sciuridae indet. and Asoriculus cf. gibberodon the former, and Apodemusgorafensis, Paraethomys aff. abaigari, Stephanomys dubari, Apocricetus barrierei, Sciuridae indet., Asoriculus cf. gibberodon, Castillomysgracilis, Occitanomysbrailloni, Occitanomys sp., Paraethomys meini, Ruscinomys sp., Eliomys intermedius, Debruijnimys cf. julii and Atlantoxerussp. the latter. Based on the study of these micromammal assemblages, we propose an Early Pliocene age (MN14) for both sites. The pres-ence a gerbilid related to De…
