Boulder coastal deposits at Favignana Island rocky coast (Sicily, Italy): Litho-structural and hydrodynamic control
2018
Boulders are frequently dislodged from rock platforms, transported and deposited along coastal zones by high-magnitude storm waves or tsunamis. Their size and shape are often controlled by the thickness of bedding planes as well as by high-angle to bedding fracture network. We investigate these processes along two coastal areas of Favignana Island by integrating geological data for 81 boulders, 49 rupture surfaces (called sockets) and fracture orientation and spacing with four radiocarbon dates, numerical hydrodynamic analysis, and hindcast numerical simulation data. Boulders are scattered along the carbonate platform as isolated blocks or in small groups, which form, as a whole, a disconti…
Reuse of urban-treated wastewater from a pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow system in Sicily (Italy) for irrigation of Bermudagrass (Cynodon dact…
2016
Constructed wetlands (CW) are one of the most important biological technology for the treatment and reuse of wastewaters. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reuse of treated wastewater (TWW) from CW for irrigation of Bermudagrass turf (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) and assess the effects of TWW on the biometric and qualitative parameters of the turfgrass and on chemical–physical soil properties. The research was carried out in Sicily (Italy) in a pilot-scale horizontal subsurface flow system which was fed with urban TWW following secondary treatment from an activate sludge wastewater treatment plant. The pilot-system included three separate parallel units. The outflow TWW flowed downh…
La transformación materialista de la filosofía trascendental
1989
Th1s poper critícaly questions tbree basic theses o! the Habermasian project since Knowledge and lnterest: a.) The possibílity of synthesizing two philosophlcally oppos1te ways of…
Shade effects on overseeded bermudagrass athletic fields: II. rooting, species composition, and traction
2019
Shade from athletic stadium structures can be a significant detriment to turfgrass performance. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of shade on rooting and playing surface stability, measured as traction, on overseeded or non-overseeded bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) turf. An experiment was established in 2013 on a mature bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. cv. Riviera] turf that was either overseeded with perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) or non-overseeded. Shade structures were installed to create four light level treatments, including 0%, 30%, 60%, or 90% light-reducing shade cloth. The light treatments resulted in average daily light integrals (DLI) of 40.8,…

The Structure, Stoichiometry and Properties of C-S-H Prepared by C3S Hydration Under Controlled Condition
1998
Hydrations of tricalcium silicate undertaken by keeping constant lime concentration in solution in an open system and in diluted suspensions for different values of [CaO] ranging between 6.5 and 30 mmol/1 show that the lime concentration in solution is the parameter which determines the main characteristics of the reaction and products. The stoichiometry of C3S hydration products vanes with lime concentration in the same way as synthetic C-S-H until C/S c.a. 1.5 corresponding to about [CaO] =20 mmol/1. Beyond this concentration, single phase C-S-H samples were obtained with 1.8<C/S<2. The discontinuity of the variation of stoichiometry with concentration is characteristic of an invariant po…
Modern Impressionist or Idyllic Genre Painter? Zorn’s European Fame from an Italian Perspective
2013
This article examines Zorn's international fame (France, Germany) and then focuses on the Swedish painter's controversial reception in Italian media (Vittorio Pica, Ardengo Soffici).

IL RITORNO DEL RIMOSSO. CARL SCHMITT E L’ULTIMO HABERMAS
2018
In this essay, I propose to look at Habermas’ recent work like an implicit recognition of the theoretical value of some Carl Schmitt’s ideas. Regardless of the harsh criticism that Habermas manifests towards Schmitt’s political theology in his latest essays.
