Re-reading Mary Seacole’s Wonderful Adventures through Bernardine Evaristo’s Soul Tourists

The essay illustrates the ways in which the incorporation of authentic excerpts from Mary Seacole’s autobiography in Bernardine Evaristo’s novel Soul Tourists acquires a significant cultural value within the novel’s representational strategies. The essay also explores the extent to which Seacole — together with her work — can be thought of as a litmus paper in the context of Britain’s self–representation and strategies of identity delineation.

Between the end of the fifteenth century and the beginning of the sixteenth, the changes in the military technology - mainly related to the spread of firearms - implied a re-elaboration of the fortification construction theories and, consequently, a practical experimentation aimed at the identification of architectural models capable to make the border areas safe and impregnable. Far from involving only a small circle of "men of arms", the debate about the “new art of the war” involved men whose formation can not be traced back to a specific type. Clearly emerges a fact: the involvement of ecclesiastics also as "technicians" for the design of defensive structures, was not a marginal phenome…

Cet article étudie la nouvelle d'Alonso Jerónimo Salas Barbadillo, La hija de la Celestina (1612) qui fait confluer dans le cadre " moderne " de la nouvelle à l'italienne des éléments hétérogènes empruntés à la fois à la tradition picaresque et à la célestinesque. Le résultat de ce croisement expérimental est un texte original qui revendique la filiation picaresque pour mieux la détourner.

W swoich pracach podejmuje zagadnienia dotyczące szeroko rozumianych dziejów prowincji bernardyńskich Zakonu Braci Mniejszych w Polsce, począwszy od 1453 r. Badania te poświęca dziejom poszczególnych klasztorów z gałęzi męskiej i żeńskiej, a ich dyskurs historyczny doprowadza do czasów współczesnych, ponieważ, jak sam uważa, atmosfera po 1945 r. nie sprzyjała wydawaniu dzieł analizujących dzieje Kościoła w Polsce, ani tym bardziej zgłębiających działalność zakonów.
