A randomized trial of intravitreal bevacizumab vs. ranibizumab for myopic CNV.
2014
AIMS: The aim was to compare the efficacy of intravitreal therapy with bevacizumab and ranibizumab for choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in pathologic myopia (PM). METHODS: This was a prospective multicenter randomized nonblinded trial. RESULTS: In seven centers, 78 eyes were randomized 1:1 to treatment with bevacizumab (group B, 40 eyes) or ranibizumab (group R, 38 eyes) given with an "on demand" regimen (PRN). The mean follow-up was 19 months (SD 2, range 12-24). The mean BCVA at baseline was 0.60 logMAR (20/80 Snellen equivalent, Seq) and 50 letter score (ls). Mean final BCVA was 0.51 LogMAR (20/63 Seq) and 57 ls (p = 0.0009 and p = 0.0002, respectively). In group B, mean basal BCVA was…
Assessment of intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs and dexamethasone for retinal diseases in real world setting: A multi-centre prospective study from Southe…
2022
Describe drug utilisation and clinical outcomes of intravitreal anti-VEGF drug and dexamethasone use in the real-world setting in Southern Italy using data from multi-centre study of retinal disease. Clinical data of retinal disease patients treated with anti-VEGF drugs and dexamethasone implant in 6 out-patient ophthalmology centres from Southern Italy were collected by means of an electronic case report form. Patients receiving at least one intravitreal injection/implant of the study drugs were followed for up to two years and described in terms of demographics and clinical characteristics. Drug utilisation patterns were described. A sign-rank test was used to compare clinical data on vi…
Outcomes of treatment of pediatric choroidal neovascularization with intravitreal antiangiogenic agents: the results of the KKESH International Colla…
2014
Purpose: To evaluate safety and clinical results of intravitreal antiangiogenic agents for choroidal neovascularization in pediatric patients. Methods: Retrospective, multicenter, interventional case series. A total of 45 eyes of 39 pediatric patients with choroidal neovascularization of various etiologies were treated with intravitreal injection of antiangiogenic agents (1.25 mg per 0.05 mL of bevacizumab or 0.5 mg per 0.05 mL of ranibizumab). Results: There were 24 girls and 15 boys with group median age of 13 years (range, 3–17 years). Mean follow-up period was 12.8 months (range, 3–60 months). Median visual acuity in terms of logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution at presentation …
INTRAVITREAL BEVACIZUMAB FOR CHOROIDAL NEOVASCULARIZATION IN AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION: 5-Year Results of The Pan-American Collaborative Retin…
2016
To report the long-term anatomical and functional outcomes of patients with choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration treated with intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB).Retrospective case series. Patients diagnosed with subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration that were treated with at least 1 intravitreal injection of 1.25 mg of IVB and had a minimum follow-up of 60 months. Patients underwent best-corrected Snellen visual acuity testing, optical coherence tomography, and ophthalmoscopic examination at baseline and follow-up visits. Two hundred and forty-seven consecutive patients (292 eyes) were included. The mean number …
Best-corrected visual acuity and retinal thickness are associated with improved cortical visual processing in treated wet AMD patients
2015
Purpose In response to anti-VEGF treatment for wet AMD retinal anatomy and visual acuity is often remedied. In our previous study, we showed that visual evoked potentials (VEP) improve following successful anti-VEGF treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate, how visual acuity and retinal thickness changes are reflected in VEP parameters. Moreover, we wanted to assess the feasibility of VEP as a novel monitoring tool for wet AMD patients. Methods A total of 16 patients and six control subjects were enrolled in this study. Patients received three bevacizumab intravitreal injections. At the beginning of the study and four to 6 weeks after the last injection, the best-corrected visual…
Intravitreal bevacizumab plus grid laser photocoagulation or intravitreal bevacizumab or grid laser photocoagulation for diffuse diabetic macular ede…
2013
To evaluate the anatomical and functional outcomes at 24 months in patients with diffuse diabetic macular edema treated with primary intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) plus grid laser photocoagulation (GLP) or primary IVB alone or GLP alone.Retrospective, interventional, comparative, multicenter study. We included in this analysis 141 eyes of 120 patients with diffuse diabetic macular edema treated with primary IVB alone (Group A), 120 eyes of 94 patients with GLP therapy (Group B), and 157 eyes of 104 patients treated with IVB plus GLP (Group C).In all 3 groups, the authors observed improvement of Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study best-corrected visual acuity from baseline to 24-month…
Risk Factors for Oral Mucositis During Chemotherapy Treatment for Solid Tumors: A Retrospective STROBE-Guided Study
2022
Abstract Purpose This study retrospectively analyzed the risk factors for transchemotherapy oral mucositis (OM). Methods Before each chemotherapy cycle, patients were routinely evaluated for the presence/severity of OM based on the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) v5.0 scale for adverse effects and graded as follows: However, specific conditions such as mucositis are graded on a five-point scale: 0, absence of mucositis, grade 1 (Asymptomatic or mild), 2 (Presence of pain and moderate ulceration, without interference with food intake), 3 (severe pain with interference with food intake) or 4 (Life-threatening with the need for urgent intervention). Information from 2 ye…
RESTITUTIO AD INTEGRUM IN A CASE OF ONJ RELATED TO BEVACIZUMAB
2014
Aim. Bevacizumab is a humanized recombinant monoclonal antibody that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The activity of VEGF is the ability to promote the vascular endothelial cells proliferation inducing the formation of new blood vessels. Bevacizumab is used in the treatment of selected advanced colon, lung, renal and central nervous system tumours and plays a developing role in the management of breast and ovarian cancers. It is also injected intraocularly for treatment of macular degeneration. Recently, bevacizumab has been reported as responsible of drug-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), showing a histological pattern similar to bisphosphonate-related ONJ. Moreover…

Phase II trial of bevacizumab and dose/dense chemotherapy with cisplatin and metronomic daily oral etoposide in advanced non-small-cell-lung cancer p…
2011
Bevacizumab, is a humanized monoclonal antibody to vasculo-endothelial- growth-factor, with anticancer activity in non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Our previous results from a dose/finding phase I trial in NSCLC patients, demonstrated the anti-angiogenic effects and toxicity of a newest bevacizumab-based combination with fractioned cisplatin and daily oral etoposide. We designed a phase II trial to evaluate in advanced NSCLC patients the antitumor activity and the safety of this novel regimen. In particular, 45 patients (36 males and 9 females), with a mean age of 54 years, an ECOG ≤2, stage III B/IV and NSCLC (28 adenocarcinomas, 11 squamous-cell carcinomas, 2 large-cell carcin…
