Logos and Life: Understanding of Rhythm

2011

Human being exists in the flow of time and where there is interaction between time, space and energy there is some rhythm. Physical sciences tend to attribute to rhythm a mechanical overtone but phenomenology of life shows a rhythm in the context of logos and life. Phenomenology of life describes logos of life realizing in time, place and creative acts. Concept of creativity developed by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka is similar to concept of energy recognized by Lefebvre. It means that we can investigate the problem of meaning of rhythm at the logos and life as creative experience. Rhythms appear as cosmic, natural, psychological, cultural, social and can be described as: (1) a repetition of move…

The Bible in the films of Pavel Lungin and Andrei Zvyagintsev

2018

In the Soviet Union, even after perestroika, explicitly biblical films have practically not been produced; nevertheless the Bible, despite acute censorship, has been present in a symbolic way in films directed by Andrei Tarkovsky and Larissa Shepitko. A certain revival of biblical themes is evident in recent works of Russian directors Pavel Lungin (Island, 2006; The Conductor, 2012), and Andrei Zvyagintsev (The Return, 2003; Leviathan, 2014). The paper analyzes the meaning of the Bible in these films: biblical texts are quoted in dialogues, and evoked in the titles and the protagonists’ names; biblical motifs are present in images, in contemporary events, and in the narrative structures. Th…

Yet man is born unto labour, as the sparks fly upward * : prolegomena for a legal study of work in the bible (vocabulary, concepts and structures).

2016

According to the opinion accepted by most, labour law was born in the late nineteenth century in connection with the production processes delivered by the Industrial Revolution. Its genesis follows the paradigm for which is the main feature of this new production model to generate both socioeconomic and legal subordination. So, keeping this basic assumption, a research that wanted to investigate the origins of the employment, back-links from this period, it seems to stand outside of the legal framework that constitute generally its reference system. For the same reason, also the new post-industrial work organisation in the era of globalisation, although for different reasons and yet paradox…

Un salteri català del segle XV perdut

2014

The Psalter of the Cathedral of Valencia is not a complete work, but was restored in the nineteenth century from different versions of the biblical text, one of which is lost by now. With thi…

Eco-Phenomenology: Philosophical Sources and Main Concepts

2018

Eco-phenomenology is a new developing trend, but its roots can be traced to philosophia naturalis (life philosophy), the philosophies of Schelling, Nietzsche, Bergson, Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, and other philosophers. The ecological turn in phenomenology is prompted by authors dealing with the problems of the human being – nature, life, the Universe. Eco-phenomenology and eco-philosophy are different teachings, eco-phenomenology being more theoretically fundamental while eco-philosophy until now more politically oriented. Eco-phenomenology appeals to us to look “Back to the Earth itself,” but that it is not enough to solve the question of the nature of nature and to recognize the meaning of n…

Understanding the meaning

2009

This article provides an overview of the nature of meaning, emphasizing the associative character of lexical meanings. The essay also comments on the meaning-related difficulties the translator must often overcome in order to reach a coherent interpretation due to the dubious quality of many original texts. The author illustrates this point through texts from the European Union. He also discusses some exceptional situations, especially regarding religious and traditional texts such as the Lord’s Prayer, whose formal power, including the magical ring of words, seems to outshine the alleged universal need for coherence and signification. Thus, any attempt to promote an alternative translation…

Abstra…

More Dubious Dead Sea Scrolls

2021

Abstract In the course of the last eighteen years more than 75 new “Dead Sea Scrolls” fragments have surfaced on the antiquities market. These are commonly referred to as post-2002 Dead Sea Scrolls-like fragments. A growing number of scholars regard a substantial part of them as forgeries. In this article, we will discuss four more dubious fragments, but this time from the 20th Century—or at least from pre-2002. Two of the fragments have been known since the late nineties and are published in the DJD series. One was published in Revue de Qumran (2003), and one in Gleanings from the Caves (2016). All four are today accepted as part of the Dead Sea Scrolls dataset even though they are unprove…
