Homme et animal, la question des frontières.

2009

Sex and Gender in the Scenarios of Human Evolution

2018

Contributors from a range of disciplines consider the disconnect between human evolutionary studies and the rest of evolutionary biology. The study of human evolution often seems to rely on scenarios and received wisdom rather than theory and methodology, with each new fossil or molecular analysis interpreted as supporting evidence for the presumed lineage of human ancestry. We might wonder why we should pursue new inquiries if we already know the story. Is paleoanthropology an evolutionary science? Are analyses of human evolution biological? In this volume, contributors from disciplines that range from paleoanthropology to philosophy of science consider the disconnect between human evolutio…

Zinc isotopes in Late Pleistocene fossil teeth from a Southeast Asian cave setting preserve paleodietary information

2020

Significance Dietary habits, especially meat consumption, represent a key aspect in the behavior and evolution of fossil hominin species. Here, we explore zinc (Zn) isotope ratios in tooth enamel of fossil mammals. We show discrimination between different trophic levels and demonstrate that Zn isotopes could prove useful in paleodietary studies of fossil hominin, or other mammalian species, to assess their consumption of animal versus plant resources. We also demonstrate the high preservation potential of pristine diet-related Zn isotope ratios, even under tropical conditions with poor collagen preservation, such as the studied depositional context in Southeast Asia. However, assessing the …

Quality of life of patients irradiated for head and neck cancer and impact of rehabilitation with a removable dental prosthetic: 1-year follow-up stu…

2022

Head and neck cancer and its treatment cause significant functional, aesthetic, and social disabilities. These disabilities have a major impact on the quality of life of patients. When irradiation is required, removable dental prostheses are often the treatment of choice. This study investigated whether removable prosthetic rehabilitation improved patient function and aesthetics over the long term.In this prospective study, we assessed quality of life in 78 patients with the General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) questionnaire. Assessments were performed before, and 1 week, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after denture insertion. We evaluated whether quality of life was influenced b…

Handicap : quand l'archéologie nous éclaire

2018
