Agreement of predicted intraocular lens power using swept-source optical coherence tomography and partial coherence interferometry
2021
PURPOSE To analyze the agreement of the predicted intraocular lens (IOL) power obtained with ANTERION, IOLMaster 700 and Pentacam AXL biometers. METHODS We calculated the monofocal and trifocal IOL power using the SRK/T, Haigis, Barrett Universal II and Hoffer Q formulas for 106 eyes. IOL power agreement between devices was evaluated using the Bland-Altman method. RESULTS We found significant differences between biometers comparisons (p 0.05), with the same outcomes for medium- and long-eyes. No significant differences were found using the SRK/T, Haigis, or Hoffer Q formulas for short-eyes (p > 0.1). However, Barrett Universal II formula produced significant differences (p < 0.05) and thes…

2021
Purpose: To evaluate the agreement of different biometric parameters obtained using intraoperative spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and two swept-source optical coherence tomog...
A method for automatic forensic facial reconstruction based on dense statistics of soft tissue thickness.
2019
In this paper, we present a method for automated estimation of a human face given a skull remain. The proposed method is based on three statistical models. A volumetric (tetrahedral) skull model encoding the variations of different skulls, a surface head model encoding the head variations, and a dense statistic of facial soft tissue thickness (FSTT). All data are automatically derived from computed tomography (CT) head scans and optical face scans. In order to obtain a proper dense FSTT statistic, we register a skull model to each skull extracted from a CT scan and determine the FSTT value for each vertex of the skull model towards the associated extracted skin surface. The FSTT values at p…
Meiosis in translocation heterozygotes in the mosquito Culex pipiens.
1971
Adult Culex pipiens males irradiated with both X-rays and neutrons were crossed to untreated females and F1-egg rafts were checked for dominant lethality. F1-progenies were outcrossed with normal individuals in order to obtain lines with inherited semisterility. From a total of 120 lines that showed a certain amount of sterility 12 lines were studied cytologically. 10 lines showed reciprocal chromosome exchanges.—At late pachytene and diplotene cross configurations with large asynaptic regions at the center of the cross are obligatory. Bivalents, chains of three, chains of four, and ring configurations are present at metaphase and anaphase I. The different frequencies of the occurrence of s…
Postural control and balance in a cohort of healthy people living in Europe: An observational study
2018
Abstract In the past 20 years, posturography has been widely used in the medical field. This observational study aimed to report the values derived from posturography of a wide set of healthy subjects from various European countries using a plantar pressure platform and a standardized method of measurement. A random cluster sampling of 914 healthy subjects aged between 7.0 and 85.99 years, stratified by age, was carried out. To provide percentile values of our cohort, data were processed to obtain 3 curves corresponding to the following percentiles: 25th, 50th, 75th, and the interquartile range. Distance-weighted least squares method was used to represent the percentile on appropriate graph…
Optical coherence tomography angiography evaluation of peripapillary microvascular changes after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair
2021
PURPOSE To evaluate the radial peripapillary capillary plexus (RPCP) vessel density (VD) and the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in eyes successfully treated with pars plana vitrectomy for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. METHODS In this cross-sectional multicenter clinical study, eyes with a minimum 12-month follow-up were reexamined. The RPCP VD and RNFL thickness in the rhegmatogenous retinal detachment subfields of the affected eye (study group) were compared with the corresponding areas of the healthy fellow eyes (control group). RESULTS Fifty-three eyes were included in the study. A significantly lower RPCP VD and RNFL thickness were observed in those subfields af…
Estimating adjusted NNT measures in logistic regression analysis
2007
The number needed to treat (NNT) is a popular measure to describe the absolute effect of a new treatment compared with a standard treatment or placebo in clinical trials with binary outcome. For use of NNT measures in epidemiology to compare exposed and unexposed subjects, the terms 'number needed to be exposed' (NNE) and 'exposure impact number' (EIN) have been proposed. Additionally, in the framework of logistic regression a method was derived to perform point and interval estimation of NNT measures with adjustment for confounding by using the adjusted odds ratio (OR approach). In this paper, a new method is proposed which is based upon the average risk difference over the observed confou…
A flexible approach to the crossing hazards problem
2010
We propose a simple and flexible framework for the crossing hazards problem. The method is not confined to two-sample problems, but may also work with continuous exposure variables whose effect changes its sign at some time-point of the observed follow-up time. Penalized partial likelihood estimation relies upon the assumption of a smooth hazard ratio via low-rank basis splines with a conventional difference penalty to ensure smoothness, and additional ad hoc penalties to obtain restricted estimates useful in the context of crossing hazards. The framework naturally also leads to a statistical test that has good power for revealing a global effect under several alternatives, including crossi…
Anterior Segment Biometry and Their Correlation with Corneal Biomechanics in Caucasian Children.
2018
Purpose: To assess the relationship between the corneal biomechanical parameters and the anterior segment parameters in Caucasian children. Methods: This study included 293 eyes from 293 healthy children aged between 6 and 17 years. Corneal hysteresis (CH) and corneal resistance factor (CRF) were evaluated with the Ocular Response Analyzer, axial length (AL) with IOLMaster and the anterior segment with Pentacam. Anterior segment parameters obtained were the following: central corneal thickness (CCT), corneal volume (CV), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV) and mean anterior and posterior keratometry. Two multiple linear regression models were constructed to assess th…
Phenotypic plasticity in haptoral structures of Ligophorus cephali (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) on the flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus): A Geometric M…
2015
Abstract Evaluating phenotypic plasticity in attachment organs of parasites can provide information on the capacity to colonise new hosts and illuminate evolutionary processes driving host specificity. We analysed the variability in shape and size of the dorsal and ventral anchors of Ligophorus cephali from Mugil cephalus by means of geometric morphometrics and multivariate statistics. We also assessed the morphological integration between anchors and between the roots and points in order to gain insight into their functional morphology. Dorsal and ventral anchors showed a similar gradient of overall shape variation, but the amount of localised changes was much higher in the former. Statist…
